Budget Beauty | 5 Best Winter Moisturisers For Dry Skin - Under Rs 500
Feeling a slight nip in the air already? Well, we sure are and that means, winter is just around the corner. For many of you, especially those with dry, sensitive skin, winter also marks the arrival of flaky skin, dry patches on skin, visible dehydration and more. While we have got a variety of products to choose from, those on a budget find it difficult to zero in on a good face moisturiser. We all need that one hero product, that not only provides good results, but is also light on the wallet. So, we have got a tried and tested products list, that we swear by. Here's to maintaining soft and supple skin, without burning a hole in your pocket.
1. Cetaphil Moisturising Cream
Price: Rs 326
Quantity: 80g
Undoubtedly, one of the best drug-store moisturising creams in the market (and we personally swear by this). The Cetaphil Moisturising Cream is perfect for everyday facial use and can be used by those with dry, sensitive skin. For best results, you can use it after washing your face using the Cetaphil Cleansing Lotion for sensitive skin. The product comes in a tube with a flip top and is super easy to carry.
2. Nivea Creme
Price: Rs 39 onwards
Quantity: 30ml and above
Ah! The good ol' Nivea creme. Everybody loves a dollop of this creamy, smooth multipurpose creme. While it does a great job of moisturising your facial skin, it can also be used on your elbows, hands, feet among others, to keep the area soft and supple. Plus, we love the signature creme fragrance, that has been a favourite since childhood.
3. Lakmè Winter Intense Moisturiser
Price: Rs 110 onwards
Quantity: 60ml and above
For those who prefer thick lotions over cream based moisturisers, this one's for you. We were first introduced to the Lakmè Winter Moisturiser (then known as the Lakmè Winter Care Moisturiser) around a decade ago. Later, the range was relaunched as the Skin Gloss Winter Intense Moisturiser, with new packaging and added benefits. However, our love for this creamy lotion remains the same. Right from the fragrance, texture to packaging and price, Lakmè gets almost everything right. For those with supremely dry skin, take a small amount (a little less than hazelnut size) of the lotion and massage it well. We prefer using this as our night moisturiser.
4. Pond's Moisturising Cold Cream
Price: Rs 82 onwards
Quantity: 55ml and above
"Googly Woogly Woksh" Remember this jingle? Or perhaps, those palm sized mini cream jars that we would happily carry to school, in order to ensure that the dry, flaky skin on our palms don't get in the way of our exams? Well, the Pond's Cold Cream has been almost every Indian girl's holy grail during the winter season. While the packaging may have changed, the signature fragrance and creamy, soft texture is still the same. Perfect for those looking who need intense hydration.
5. Hamdard's Roghan Badam Shirin Oil
Price: Rs 130 onwards
Quantity: 25ml and above
You may wonder, what's an oil doing on this list? Well, for those who aren't familiar with this wonder product, let us introduce you to Hamdard's Rogan Badam Shirin. This pure almond oil has been around for several years. FYI, most popular make up artists will tell you that this oil is a hot favourite with several top Indian actresses. Massaging 1-2 small drops of the oil will moisturise your skin from within, leaving it feeling supple (we prefer to use this in the night). Use it daily and you will wake up with soft skin. You can also use this multipurpose oil as a body moisturiser, treatment for dark circles, make up remover (best product for eye make up removal, ever) or as a hair oil to fight dandruff, dry scalp. Girls, stock up on this already, will ya?

Beauty Talks with Jacqueline Fernandez | Exclusive Interview
We have always been a fan of actress Jacqueline Fernandez' luscious locks and flawless skin. And her association with one of our favourite beauty brands - The Body Shop, is like an icing on the cake. She is the perfect ambassador for promoting skincare products with a cause. Her no-make up selfies and glowing skin has always been the subject of conversations. So, if her Instagram posts don't inspire you to take of your skin immediately, we don't know what will!
Post an event (where she was spotted launching the all new Spas of the World and Oils of Life range by The Body Shop), we caught up with Jacqueline for an exclusive chat on all things skincare. Dressed in a canary yellow matching separates by Be The Circus and stunning Louboutins, Jacqueline was being her usual self - enthusiastic, energetic and ever - so - happy. After a quick chat on our favourite products by The Body Shop (Yes! We both love the Fuji Green Tea range), we settled down to decode her beauty secrets. Excerpts from a fun conversation:

| Image Credit: Rohan Shrestha |
What's your favourite product from the latest range by The Body Shop?
Ah! It is very difficult for me to choose just one, because I have been using a lot stuff by The Body Shop and have become very fond of some products. Every time a new range is launched, I test almost every single product. There is something amazing for each season, with different fragrances and ingredients. I love the fact that they keep introducing new stuff almost once every month. Right now, I am loving the creams, which have an incredible texture and are perfect for winter. Once you use any cream by The Body Shop, it is very difficult to move on to anything else. Also, my current favourite is the Oils of Life range, and I particularly like the Facial Oil (read our review here) which is perfect for winters.
What's that one beauty mantra that you swear by?
Indulge in hair spas, or best, ensure that you oil your hair regularly. Go for a facial steam. Also, I have always found facial massages very useful. One won't really pay attention to something like this, but as a kid, I would always watch my Mom massaging her skin well while moisturising. And now, we also have facial massagers that can be used with your regular cream or oil. I think it's a very important element that needs to be included in our daily skincare regime, as it helps in more elasticity and keeps your skin feeling smooth.
And your personal beauty mantra for winters?
Moisturise, moisturise and moisturise. Ensure your skin is well hydrated!
Was there any particular product or skincare regime that you loved while growing up in Sri Lanka?
Nothing particular as such, because both India and Sri Lanka are like sister countries and we pretty much share the same ideals when it comes to beauty, especially the ingredients. We are very big on the properties of coconut, so we do use it a lot for skin and hair care. Also, we use a lot of natural ingredients, especially from exotic fruits, just like India. Plus, consuming them does help in maintaining good skin and hair.
What was the first beauty product that you remember using?
I think it was one of my mom's creams. So, I used it for moisturising. That is one thing I clearly remember. Every time I used to see my Mom getting ready for work, she would be moisturising her skin well. She would always see it to that her skin felt good. So, I guess that is one thing I took from her. No matter how much time it takes, I always make sure that I moisturise my skin well everyday. I am really huge on creams and anything that makes your skin smell and feel good. Also, that is one reason why The Body Shop's upcoming Spas of the World range is amazing. The ingredients leave your skin feeling smooth and supple. It's like pampering yourself at home.

So, do you follow a regular skincare routine?
Yeah, I do. And I think CTM (Cleansing, Toning and Moisturising) is extremely important. Also, I never go to bed with my make up on. That's a huge no-no. I always use a good make up remover, which is easy on the eyes. Also, a good cleanser is essential. I use the Vitamin E cleanser by The Body Shop, which makes my skin feel squeaky clean after a long day. I also use toners and moisturisers. But now, I have also included the facial oil in my daily skin routine. The skin needs to feel hydrated, supple during winter and the facial oil leaves my skin feeling just that.
Do you think fitness plays a major role in the way your skin looks?
Absolutely! Exercising regularly takes good care of your skin from within. The minute you have good skin, half your battle is won, as you will require less covering up. Just a little bit of enhancements on the eyes, lips and you are done. So, taking good care of your skin is extremely important, with the right amount of sleep, good diet, exercise and the right products.
What are favourite your make up essentials?
I allow my skin to breathe as much as possible. Even at home, there's no make up at all. But, I always ensure that I am wearing sunscreen. But, when I step out, some of my essentials include a good concealer, BB cream that can both moisturise and provide decent coverage, a nice primer to smoothen out your skin. More than that, it depends. If I feel like making my eyes pop, I go for lots of mascara or if the lips, then bold lipsticks. But my most favourite make up item has to be a Blush. Using a blush is very important! That is definitely my essential.

Nivea Beauty Range Review | Winter 2015
Winter is slowly (very slowly) setting in and although most fellow Mumbaikars won't agree (since most parts are still super hot and humid), I have to admit that people have begun complaining about dry skin, rashes, sensitivity already. A lot of us turn to our trustworthy cold creams and moisturisers, one of our favourites being the good ol' blue tin - Nivea. This season, Nivea has launched some really interesting products in fresh fragrances. So, while the blue tin and their super hydrating lotions take care of your face and skin, these new launches will ensure that other important areas too stay hydrated and well taken care of. We are referring to two extremely sensitive areas - underarms and lips. Read on to know our views.
What? - Nivea Care & Colour: Rose and Red
Price: Rs 200
Quantity: 4.8g
What does it promise? Intensively cares and provides subtle rose / red colour. The pro-vitamin B5 provides long lasting moisture intensive.
Packaging: Chapstick tube with a tight fitting cap. The packaging is perfect and easy to carry.
Texture: Creamy. It glides on smoothly and is not sticky.
Fragrance: While rose stays true to its name, the fragrance of red is like a blend of raspberry and strawberry. What's amazing is that none of the fragrances are strong or over-powering. I was more skeptical about the rose variety, as a lot of products in the market use strong rosy notes, which is a huge turn off. The rose fragrance is subtle and fresh, while the red variety is pleasant and not very fruity, clearly making these two lip care products a class apart and notch above from the typical flavours available in the market.

Experience: Nivea's Care & Colour is a yummy, smooth and fragrant lip care in a tube. Every lip care in this range has two layers. The inner formula (in white), with panthenol, works on the core edges, while the outer colour coat keeps your lips hydrated and leaves a subtle rosy / red (depending on the chosen flavour) tint on your lips. The product is dermatologically tested and works well in all seasons. Since we have already started experiencing dry skin issues (dehydrated lips are the first signs), this came as a big boon. The ongoing season is such, where everybody needs that one hero product, that can take good care of their lips and save it from drying out. Nivea's care & colour range of chapsticks do just that! Its a no-nonsense, simple formula that hydrates, nourishes and as a bonus, leaves a subtle tint that looks great.
What? Nivea Fresh Flower Deodorant
Price - Rs 190
Quantity - 150ml
What does it promise? Nivea Fresh Flower Deodorant cares for your underarms. It leaves you feeling fresh all day long. Provides 48 hour odour protection and gentle Nivea care. The product is dermatologically tested and sensitive skin tolerant, with a fresh floral scent.
Fragrance: Very pleasant and fresh. In fact, this is fast becoming one of our favourite deodorant based fragrances. Despite the name (fresh flower), this is a far cry from the usual flowery fragrances available in the market. For us, it was like a refreshing blend of flowers and ocean based tones, that are both subtle and fresh.
Experience: This product can be best explained in five words - A breath of fresh air. Although we would also like to carry this around during the more hot and humid days (read: Spring / Summer 2016), we feel its perfect for the cold days too. The soft, caring texture will ensure that your underarms stay hydrated, and absorb, do away with whatever little perspiration that you encounter. While the deodorant promises 48 hours of gentle care and protection, we felt it did a decent job during our 12 hour long, gruelling work schedule. Post application, you will almost feel like your underarms have got some moisturiser slathered on them. And as mentioned above, we absolutely love the fragrance.

What? Nivea Anti-Perspirant Fresh Natural Roll On
Price: Rs 175
Quantity: 50ml
Packaging: Housed in a glass bottle (just like most other Nivea roll ons), the Nivea Anti-Perspirant may not be your ideal travel friendly option. While the product is well packed, its too heavy and fragile (read: glass) to carry around. The application process is simple, and I personally prefer roll-ons, as they slightly better for the environment (and for personal hygiene reasons, you don't have to share it either *wink*).
Texture and Fragrance: The texture is mostly a mix of gel and water, which feels cool and light post application. Nivea's Fresh Natural has ocean extracts, which lends this roll on its ocean inspired fresh fragrance. So much, that it will almost transport you to a land of cool, breezy virgin beaches. Again, the fragrance is perfect for all seasons and has a long lasting effect.
Experience: If you are looking for a product that really lasts long, and if you are someone with a serious issue of perspiration, then Nivea's Anti-Perspirant Fresh Natural Roll-On is your best bet. One of our team members, who travels by train and faces major perspiration issues, tried this roll-on everyday for a week and noticed that while the fragrance lingered on for a good 6 hours, the anti-perspirant properties actually helped keep all the sweat away. We also used tried this roll-on before a workout and felt super good about the way this formula works. Plus, those ocean notes are just perfect (and so soothing).
Pros: Amazing quality of products at a reasonable rate
The lip care range doubles up as a tinted lip conditioner (multiple swipes will make the tint look darker)
The deodorant moistures and hydrates the underarm skin
All the products have a great fragrances, which is not strong.
Cons: Deodorant contains Alcohol
Roll on comes in a glass bottle, which makes it tough / heavy to carry
Verdict: The new range has something for everyone. While it is tough to choose a favourite, the lip care range definitely gets a double thumbs up. Our daily essential kits feel incomplete without it already.

A Winter Day in Mumbai | Outfit
They call it a humourless season that can drive one to drinking (according to Amy Gerstler). Henry Wardsworth Longfellow refers to it as a time when the troubled sky reveals the grief that it feels. And then, of course, the master playwright Williams Shakespeare summed its rudeness in four words, with a line in As You Like It that goes, "Thy breath be rude." Despite all the metaphors associated with it, Winter is also remembered for its memories. The Christmas decorations, sesame laddoo making sessions on Sankrant, conversations with family over hot chocolate, days (and nights, since they are longer) spent snuggling inside the blanket and curling up on the bed with your favorite book. Just like everything in this world, Winter has its share of fans and haters. Speaking of which, the winters in Mumbai have always been a favorite topic for those who originally hail from much colder regions. As much as people have always loved to crib about the winters in Mumbai, I absolutely adore it.
Mumbai is a coastal city, so naturally, the humidity will overpower everything (and I still wonder why people continue to crib and ask for a 'Dilliwali Thand' here. People, if that day ever comes, you will have global warming to thank). Even winters. Its like a mix of sunshine, humidity and slow, cold breeze in the afternoons, while the evenings get slightly chilly. One of the reasons why I love this weather is because it gives me the opportunity to wear all my favourite jackets and blazers. I have always been more of a jacket person, as compared to someone who prefers scarves and shawls.
A jacket is your best bet on a cold day out and can help spruce up even the most boring or basic outfits. Ditto Blazers (its a good idea to have them in different colours and even prints). Personally, I have always loved jackets that add a sporty touch, and instead of opting for my good ol' Nike sneakers as always, I gave this outfit a twist with these sneaker heels (not very comfortable post 1-2 hours, so I suggest you keep those sneakers around if its a long day).
If you think about it, this weather shall last only for a few more days (or weeks). So, step out in your favourite jacket and maybe, show off that 'ain't nobody got time for that shit' look on your face when someone keeps complaining about the Mumbai weather. Trust me, it doesn't hurt!

A/W '15 Favourites | Emporio Armani Eyewear
At a recent press preview organised by the awesome folks at Luxottica, I was quite impressed by some stunning new pieces launched by eye wear brands, including Emporio Armani, Prada, Versace among others. To start off our obsession, here are some of our favorite, lust worthy pieces from Emporio Armani's A/W 14-15 collection, straight off the runway, which celebrates Modern Balance, with unisex features and some formal elegance. While most pieces rock the minimalist trend, those looking for some sophisticated bling will also find some 'eye-candy' here.
1. Men's EA 2027
This stunning pair of metal sunglasses come in minimalist designs and an elegant contrast of colors. There is a two-tone contrasting mix of hues on the front edges. which looks very sexy. This beauty is available in two shades - black and gold with brown or burgundy lenses, or in a gunmetal color with brown lenses. Wear it with an army print or the good ol' leather jacket, and you are ready to be the center of attraction.
2. Women's EA 4040 Bejeweled
The large mother of pearl placed on both sides of the frames will add some opulence and sophistication to even a dull outfit. Chic, feminine and absolutely charming, this bejeweled pair also comes in another option, with pastel shades on the front and black temples, adding a contrast. Available pastel shades include opal white and opal light blue. Definitely a must have if you have a thing for pearls or just want the perfect pair of sunglasses for your lace or vintage print dresses.
3. Women's EA 4039
This gorgeous beauty comes with double bridge frames, acetate temples and a stunning front with havana hues. This is the perfect example of comfort meets style and safety, as the polarized lenses of this beauty provide 100 per cent protection. Enough to spruce up your formal apparel, this range by Emporio Armani comes in three varieties - black and havana with brown polarized lenses, dove grey and havana with brown polarized lenses, purple and havana with purple polarized lenses.
4. Men's EA 4034
Who doesn't love a stylish pair of reflective sunglasses with matte frames? Boys, you have got some serious variety to choose from in this range. The linear profile of this beauty is light, flexible and we love its distinctly square design. The colors in this are inspired by the Emporio Armani Men’s Autumn/Winter 2014/2015 collection. The available options include matte burgundy with grey lens, matte grey with grey mirrored lens, and matte blue with blue mirrored lens.
and now, for those who can't get enough of stylish opticle frames.
5. Women's EA 3040
This sophisticated pair of women’s optical frames are just what you need, in order those replace those boring metal frames. With elegant lines, optical textures, fine details and tortoise shell designs on the side, this frame spells class. They come in double layer acetate with a blend of havana and bright complementary colors, on both the temple and the front. These optic frames are available in three options, including black and havana, olive green and havana, purple and havana.

On a floral trail | Marks & Spencer
"A garden to walk in and immensity to dream in - what more could she ask? A few flowers at her feet and above her, the stars." - Les Misérables (Yes! I tweaked it a little).
The last couple of days have given me a chance to get back to something I love the most - dreaming. When you learn to let go of things and give your dreams a chance, you realise that the going may be a tough one, but it is certainly not impossible. Everything is possible with the perfect blend of hard work, talent, blessings and oodles of patience. Surrounding yourself with things you love is another trick. If you are happy from within, nothing can stop you from achieving your goals.
All things floral is one such thing that makes me smile. And recently, when Marks and Spencer India invited me to put together a look (with my readers) keeping the floral theme in mind, I just couldn't say no. Adding the perfect touch to my happiness was the place where we got this photo shoot done.
Although I had my doubts about how and what the participants will pick for me on Twitter and Facebook, I was mighty impressed with the fashionistas who not only upped the ante with their trendy choices, but also took a step ahead towards winning the Marks and Spencer India #PerfectedByYou contest. After posting photographs of stuff that I couldn't take my eyes off, this outfit turned out to be the unanimous winner. With just the right amount of bling, a touch of oxblood and a gorgeous floral print, I couldn't have asked for more.
While browsing through the vast and absolutely beautiful A/W 2014 collection at the Marks and Spencer India store in Bandra, one can see how the brand has got the right mix of comfort and style. Each section, be it the Autograph or Limited Edition collection, had a dominant print and color, which helped set it apart from the other. Autumn is not only about dark hues, so there is something for everyone at M&S. The comfy wraps, well fitted pencil skirts, blousons in different prints, trench coats in lovely colours and of course, my favorite, the super comfortable sweat shirts and knit cardigans, were all so 'take home' worthy. Among the accessories and shoes, I fell in love with a pair of heeled sneakers. Full marks to M&S for offering such a huge variety of apparel and accessories, which is not only high on the fashion quotient, but quite affordable as well.
