A good chunk of Bollywood fans will agree that at some point of time or the other, they connected to this dialogue and found it rather relatable. Helmed by Ayan Mukerji, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani became a cult for almost every millennial, who continuously deal with the ordeal of maintaining the work-life-dream balance, every single day. The Ranbir Kapoor - Deepika Padukone starrer released on this very day - i.e May 31, exactly eight years back!
Apart from the memorable dialogues and melodious songs, YJHD became one of the highest grossing films of 2013, thanks to the fact that it also brought back erstwhile lovers - RK and DP, back together on the big screen. Plus, every fan will agree that the film showcased and celebrated some beautiful moments of love, friendship, relationships and even individual freedom. On The Sets | Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra explore the Indo-Nepal border
If Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra's respective Instagram accounts (and stories) are anything to go by, it is clear that the duo are having a great time shooting for their next - Sandeep aur Pinky Faraar. Currently in its second schedule, the cast and crew are shooting for the film at Indo-Nepal Border, making this entertaining thriller the only flick ever to be shot at this location.
Kapoor and Chopra are currently undergoing what is said to be the most challenging shooting experience of their respective careers. Film maker Dibakar Banerjee has taken the lead actors of his directorial, to shoot at the international border of India and Nepal, that is constantly under radar for illegal immigration. In addition, the actors have been filming crucial portions in day and night shifts, amidst freezing temperatures that often go down to 0 degrees.
“Dibakar is filming extremely intense and gritty portions of the film at the Indo-Nepal border. The portions will show the tension between Arjun and Parineeti’s character. These are crucial and defining moments of the film. The area where the two are shooting is exactly at the border and is constantly under alert for illegal immigration and smuggling. People use an inflated rubber tube as a flotation device on the Kali river at the border and make this risky crossing in the thick of a wintry night. So, shooting has been quite difficult. Local authorities have been of tremendous help providing the crew with assistance and necessary security,” informs a source close to the film.
This new information builds more curiosity around the thriller! Knowing Dibakar, is he exploring and filming something around the theme of smuggling with the two lead characters of the film? Guess we won’t know these details anytime soon, and will have to wait till August for answers.
Meanwhile, the shooting schedules of Yash Raj Films’ Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar has been quite adventurous in many ways. The cast and crew braved the Delhi smog during a schedule in the capital city. Next, the film’s crew shot important portions in Jhulaghat - a village in Uttarakhand, which may face the risk of being completely submerged underwater because of the construction of a dam. If it becomes a reality, Banerjee’s film will end up being the only one to have a visual record of this quaint town on the big screen.
Sandeep aur Pinky Faraar will have Kapoor essaying the role of a Haryanvi cop, while Chopra steps into the shoes of an ambitious corporate. Both the actors have reunited after their 2012 hit - Ishaqzaade. The film is scheduled to release on August 3, 2018.

Be Prepared to get Intrigued - Aiyaary | Trailer Watch
The much awaited trailer of Neeraj Pandey's Aiyaary is finally out and needless to say, the perfect blend of drama and thrills in this Manoj Bajpayee and Sidharth Malhotra starrer has certainly left us impressed.
Aiyaary revolves around two strong-minded army officers, who have completely different views. Still, they are correct in their own respective ways. The film has Malhotra essaying the role of an army officer, who shares a mentor-protégé bond with Bajpayee. The trailer showcases Major Jai Bakshi (Malhotra) as a loyal and obedient officer, who idolises his mentor Colonel Abhay Singh (Bajpayee). One thing leads to another with some interesting turn of events, leaving us curious as to what exactly results in the two being pitted against each other. It not only dwells on the mystery of how the protégé turned against his own mentor, but also hints at an ongoing scam, that risks the reputation of the entire Indian Army.
While Bajpayee is seen as a strict and focused army official, who can go to any extent to protect the dignity of the Indian army, Malhotra's Jai Bakshi showcases a drastic change in intentions. It gives us the impression of an honest, loyal officer gone rogue. But, what brings about this change? Of course, to find our answers and unravel the mystery, we have to wait and watch the film!
Apart from a very strong and powerful looking Malhotra and Bajpayee, the ensemble cast too creates an impact. The film has some power packed performers including Anupam Kher, Naseeruddin Shah, Adil Hussain, Kumud Mishra and Vikram Gokhale. The film also stars Rakul Preet Singh and Pooja Chopra, but we get to see very little of them in the trailer. Mishra's character showcases some shades of grey, along with Hussain. Vikram Gokhale and Anupam Kher are seen in authoritative positions, but we know very little about their characters as of now. But, it is the final frame featuring Naseeruddin Shah that catches our interest, with a powerful closing statement. That has certainly upped our curious quotient. Say 'Aye' if you agree!
Aiyaary has been in the news since quite sometime. Ever since Malhotra posted a few on-set pictures and videos on his Instagram stories, the buzz has been strong around this film. Even the poster generated good reactions. As part of the pre-release promotions, the makers had earlier released a sizzle to the film, showcasing some interesting behind the scenes. They were successful in raising the bar and creating some good excitement around the film.
The film marks Pandey's return to direction after two years (his last directorial M.S. Dhoni released in 2016). The biopic not only won accolades from the audience and industry insiders, but also emerged victorious at the box office. The ace filmmaker has previously won hearts with his appealing films that have a realistic touch, be it A Wednesday or Special 26. If the reaction to Aiyaary is anything to go by, we can certainly predict that the audience is keen on witnessing yet another splendid film by the director.
Personally, we absolutely loved the intriguing trailer. It is perfectly presented and well edited. Both Malhotra and Bajpayee create an impact with their strong personality and presence. Gotta take a moment to appreciate how amazing Malhotra looks in that uniform! With some strong detailing and perfect elements in place, we are quite sure Pandey will leave us on the edge of our seats with this striking film. Needless to say, we are surely in for a treat! Who else is looking forward to January 26, 2018 already?

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha | Film Review
There are times when 'experiencing' a film may require watching it twice. I usually prefer watching some films at a multiplex and then, at a single screen (preferably one show with the family. Their reactions are always real and priceless). However, with just a few single screen cinemas remaining, it is not always possible to get tickets, as they sell out faster than a hot & crispy vada pav. But, as luck would have it, I got my tickets well in advance this time. Needless to say, my decision to watch this week's much anticipated release - Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, with the 'super cinephiles' of single screen cinema, was a terrific one. Watching the film amidst constant 'seetis', cheers and applause for Akshay Kumar's strong stand against open defecation, made for quite an experience. Something that a real cinephile at heart will always enjoy. That, apart from the joy of watching of a well made, entertaining film, where even the audience was happy to wait back right till the end of credits (a rare scene in today's times).
Shree Narayan Singh's second directorial venture focuses on an important issue, that of open defecation and the non-availability of toilets in most households. The lead protagonist - Keshav (Kumar) is a middle aged guy, who lives in a village called Mandgaon. Despite repeated attempts (and affairs), Keshav is unable to get married, thanks to a few compulsions set by his orthodox father (Sudhir Pandey - brilliant as always). First, Keshav must tie the knot with a cow to get rid of his dosha, and next, hunt for a girl who has two thumbs (insert regular 'Hrithik Roshan' puns). While on the hunt, he meets and falls in love with a feisty, educated young girl - Jaya (Pednekar). Some initial hurdles (and a few 'jugaads' later), the two get married. However, things go haywire the very next day, as Jaya finds out that her 'sasural' does not have a toilet, and Babuji isn't too keen on building one either. That's where the struggle begins, as Keshav and Jaya fight against all odds (including superstitions) for their right to basic sanitation.

TEPK is real, raw and supremely entertaining. While the basic premise is a social issue (and also centres around PM Modi's Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan), there is not a single moment where the film loses out on the entertainment factor. It wonderfully blends the two aspects together, and delivers a strong message, without being too preachy. Though, one may find a few hiccups during the second half, they don't really appear as flaws. The high points, especially performances and superb writing, pretty much covers up for everything else.
While the music is average, it fits in to the narrative pretty well. 'Gori Tu Lath Maar' has been shot beautifully. Surinder Sodhi's background score is decent. Siddharth - Garima's writing is deft, and is certainly one of the biggest highlight of this film. Dialogues are superb, most of which even earn whistles and cheers. It has a great melange of humour, romance and drama, and a sprinkle of culture, thanks to sanskrit shlokas. Singh's direction is slick, and it is impossible to ignore the detailing that has gone behind even the most simple aspects. For e.g: Keshav's street-side fashion dupes that range from Naik (Nike) to Uima (Puma) or the fake Ray-Ban. Each and every detail has been designed or incorporated keeping the surroundings in mind, which is laudable.

The lead pair and ensemble cast are the real heart of this social - drama. Casting is fantastic, with artists like Divyendu, Sudhir Pandey, Anupam Kher among others adding life to their respective characters with a flawless act. Divyendu has an impeccable comic timing, and the audience erupts in laughter, every time he comes on screen. Pandey as the strict and orthodox Babuji is brilliant.
Despite the film being her second outing, Bhumi Pednekar shines with an outstanding act. With the perfect body language, nuances and fabulous dialogue delivery, she breathes life into Jaya. She does not make the character look caricaturish. Jaya is relatable and real. Pednekar 's natural act (and look) is one of the strongest highlights in the film. It is impossible for anyone to believe that the actress is just one film old. There are portions where she outshines all the veterans around her. That's the mark of a talented artist, and with this flawless performance, Pednekar has proved that she is here to stay.
Akshay Kumar is one of the very few actors who has managed to excel in different genres and has shown excellent range in all his films. There is no doubt that the actor is incredibly versatile. Film after film, he has raised the bar and taken things a notch above with his brilliant performance and vision. TEPK is no different. Kumar's portrayal of Keshav creates a strong impact. He starts off as a regular, confused local guy (with some serious stalking skills), but as the film progresses, the character grows into someone on a mission. Keshav's boy to man journey has been flawlessly essayed by Kumar. His chemistry with Pednekar's Jaya is fabulous, which is another strong highlight of the film.
Singh's Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is an important film of our times. It explores a love story, against the backdrop of several dark issues that the people of our country continue to suffer from. While focusing on open defecation as the larger picture, the film also touches upon other key issues, including superstition, societal pressure and narrow mindedness of the society. During Jaya's struggle against open defecation, she comes across women who pooh-pooh her decisions. Some even go on to question her education and state that women should not be given to much 'freedom'. It is commendable that Singh has highlighted the various evils that continue to poison our society, in a film that provides wholesome entertainment. It is difficult to find this perfect combination in a good film. Fortunately, TEPK has passed this litmus test with flying colours.
Verdict: A must watch for one and all! Highly recommended for it's flawless performances, excellent writing and the strong message, that creates an impact. Radhe Radhe!!

Fan | Film Review
Those who watch Bollywood films, both in India and abroad, have always looked up to Shah Rukh Khan as the king of romance. As someone who was born in the 90s and grew up watching the actor experiment with different genres, I have always loved his risks, especially those where his characters had a darker shade. In fact, Khan started his career with films that had him play negative roles, be it Darr, Baazigar or Anjaam among others. Ever since the actor took the completely commercial route, we lost this experiment loving, risk taker somewhere in the maddening crowd of the multiple crore clubs (though, Ra.One was way ahead of its times and I shall always stand by this opinion). Thankfully, he is back with a bang, with a trump card called Fan and this time, he is sure to make you fall in love with him again, albeit in a different way.
Simply saying that the film left me mind-blown, would be an understatement. Fan is nothing like any SRK film that you have seen before, and this is definitely the most unconventional Yash Raj Film starring Khan. It is dark, intense and raw. We are introduced to a typical Delhi boy - Gaurav Chandna (Khan), a die-hard fan of actor Aryan Khanna (again, Khan), a superstar who rules millions of hearts. Chandna's only dream is to spend sometime with Aryan, but his world turns upside down after his first visit to Mumbai. One thing leads to another, and the passionate fan soon turns in to a destructor, whose only aim is to destroy Aryan Khanna. That's where the chase begins, and what follows is sure to keep you hooked on right till the end.
Director Maneesh Sharma, who wowed us with Band Baaja Baarat, has done a good job at handling this fan vs superstar showdown. We love how the gripping narrative keeps us on the hook, and thankfully, there are no unnecessary songs to break the flow of the film either. Sharat Katariya's dialogues are perfect, especially the ones for Chandna that have the typical Delhi tone. Andrea Guerrea's background score is fabulous and matches each situation perfectly. It is wonderful to see a 50-year-old Khan put in incredible efforts to make some fantastic stunts look easy. Props to popular Korean action director Seyoung Oh for some thrilling, fast paced action sequences. The ensemble cast does a good job. Though, there are a few logic based loopholes in the plot, Khan's impeccable performance overshadows everything! Yes, this is an SRK entertainer all the way.
Khan's portrayal of the fan turned destroyer Gaurav is one of his best in recent times. While you see grey shades in the character and almost hate him for turning into violent fan, you also sympathise with him. As Aryan, Khan puts up a natural act. You see multiple shades in the character, ranging from being kind to turning insecure and angry. Khan's Aryan shows that actors are also human beings, after all. And in this battle between the fan and his idol, there is no right or wrong. Khan, in a double role, does full justice to completely different characters, and ends up making you believe that they are indeed two different people. This is sure an award worthy performance!
Overall, Fan may have a few weaknesses, but the strengths overpower them all. Oh, and they are nothing in front of Khan's flawless act! This is the SRK that we all wanted to see. Dark, gritty, adventurous; the one who can make us smile and cry in the same sequence. A fantastic edge of the seat thriller that is sure to keep you entertained, all the way till the end credits. Trust Shah Rukh Khan to convert you into a Fan with his incredible act in this one!
