5 Most Anticipated Films of 2015 | Cinema
Just one more fortnight and we will be down to the last quarter of the year. One of the most crucial ones for Bollywood, honestly, because this is where most of the big ticket projects will hit the marquee, thanks to the ongoing festive season. Most films have already reserved a festival date for themselves, way in advance, in order to ensure that not just their target audience, but every cine-goer enjoys their dose of entertainment during the long weekend. While there are several films, like Jazbaa, which marks the return of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Talvar (based on the Arushi Murder Case), and even the well promoted Akshay Kumar starrer Singh Is Bliing, which looks promising; we have shortlisted 5 films which are not just making the right noises, but have also left the audience curious and excited for the film's release. Let's take a look at the top 5 films that we can't wait to watch this year (in order of release date)!
Shaandaar
Right from the motion poster, to the trailer and finally the first song launch, this film is killing it with its fun and quirky appeal. Most Bollywood fanatics have been quite curious to see just how well will the Shahid - Alia jodi fare, considering it is the first time they are doing a film together. And well, not only did the trailer shun the naysayers with some sizzling (and cute) chemistry between the two, the endearing chemistry shared by Shahid and his off screen papa, Pankaj Kapoor, also left a delightful smile on our face. With Vikas Bahl helming the project after his award winning and much loved, Queen, and the Karan Johar + Phantom + Fox Star Studios producing it, Shaandaar is gonna be one helluva joyride. Save the date! It's coming this Dussehra (October 22).
Prem Ratan Dhan Payo
A Diwali release + Salman Khan = can't you hear firecrackers bursting out loud already? Prem Ratan Dhan Payo marks director Sooraj Barjatya's return as the captain of the ship after 9 years (his last directorial venture being Vivah, starring Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao). While we all saw actors like Hrithik Roshan and Shahid Kapoor taking over the lead as Prem for sometime, in 2015, the original Prem - Salman Khan is all set to get into the groove once again. The actor will be seen opposite Sonam Kapoor and the film is said to be yet another Barjatya style family drama, filled with emotions, grand set ups and melodious songs (we hear this album will have as many as 10 tracks). With Sunny Deol's Ghayal Returns pushed to a later date, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo will enjoy a solo release during the Diwali week. Dear BO, hope you are ready to handle the madness on November 12!
Tamasha
Imtiaz Ali, Ranbir - Deepika, and exotic locations. Now, do you still need a reason to watch the film? Tamasha has got everything going for it, right from the cast, crew to stunning locales that one can see in all the official stills. The film marks hit pair Ranbir - Deepika's return and it also happens to be the second time these good looking actors will be working with Imtiaz Ali (while Ranbir has worked with him in Rockstar, Deepika did Love Aaj Kal). While the buzz around this film in both social and print media is very strong, the makers are currently using social network platforms like Facebook and Twitter to put up fun sneak peek videos. One of the recent ones even had Ranbir messing up all the official social media handles of Tamasha. Exclusive stills from the film are also being shared from time to time, which is generating a strong buzz among film lovers. We are quite sure this terrific combo is all set to break records once again!
Bajirao Mastani
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's epic saga, Bajirao Mastani, is one of the most anticipated films of 2015. We all know this was SLB's dream project, that kept waiting in the wings due to cast issues for several years. Now that the film is on the verge of completion, all the updates and teasers are leaving us excited and thrilled. For someone who has grown up reading a lot about the Maratha and Peshwa history, it will be a delight to watch SLB's version of the classic Bajirao - Mastani love story, on the big screen. Keeping in mind the kind of larger than life films that he is known for, we are quite sure that SLB's dream project will win our hearts. With a stellar star cast that includes Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra, who look their part and have got into the skin of their characters with ease, this is one film to watch out for on December 18! We can't wait for the theatrical trailer and music album now.
Dilwale
What better than watching two of our favourite romantic leads - Shahrukh Khan and Kajol - making a return to the silver screen after My Name Is Khan. Ever since the first look still of Dilwale was officially released, all hell broke loose. People on social media went crazy, tweeting and posting updates, while expressing their thoughts about the return of SRK - Kajol. Director Rohit Shetty is one lucky fella. He got SRK to do the 'Lungi Dance' in Chennai Express, and now he is making the actor run around in snow (this time with Kajol), while shooting a song in Iceland. The film is almost complete and it also stars teenage heartthrob Varun Dhawan and actress Kriti Sanon. The ensemble cast will also include Johnny Lever and Sanjay Mishra. But while Dilwale promises to set the cash registers ringing, it will also ensure a major clash with yet another big film. Dilwale will release during the Christmas week - December 18, which also happens to be the release date of Bajirao Mastani. It won't be wrong to call this the clash of the titans. But while their ultimate fate will only be known on the 18th, one thing is for sure - On December 18th, love will be in the air!
Which film are you most excited about? Is it on this list?

Shamitabh was the best thing that happened to me - Dhanush | Exclusive Interview
Admit it, we have all loved his performance in Raanjhanaa. And then of course, the country danced to his tunes, when this talented artist crooned "Why this Kolaveri di?" But, this versatile actor is much more than just that. For someone who was already a superstar down south, he made a rather quite and humble entry in Bollywood with the Sonam Kapoor starrer in 2013. A two year long wait (and a few more super hit films down South) later, Tamil industry's blue eyed boy, Dhanush is back with his second outing in Bollywood. And this time, he has scored a biggie with none other than Amitabh Bachchan. The promos of their stylish and intriguing flick Shamitabh are already creating waves.
Ask him about his character in the film and prompt comes the reply, "Well, my character... (pauses) I don't know. You have to see the film to know about it. Yaar, what to do? You ask Balki. He has to be blamed for this, not me. I can't say anything." While they continue to build the suspense, within a week of Shamitabh's release, he will have another much anticipated Tamil film called Anegan hitting the screens on February 13. Dhanush fans, meanwhile, are going crazy on social media, praising the actor's look and dialogues in the two films. But this down to earth artist does not allow any form of hype or hysteria to affect his work. Very few actors of his stature have such dedication and honesty. And during one of our recent interactions with Mr. Bachchan, the legend too couldn't stop praising his co-star.
Each day on the set was like a learning experience. I observed him (Amitabh Bachchan) a lot
We met the actor for an exclusive chat on a weekday, in between several promotional activities that were lined up across a few states. After hours of different interviews (and repetitive questions for sure), Dhanush looked exhausted and didn't feel too well. He had an early morning flight to catch. But throughout the interview, not once did he show it on his face or act like he needed someone to look after him. Instead, he welcomed us with a huge smile and hug, made us feel comfortable and then, settled down for a lovely conversation. Excerpts from an inspiring and honest interview with the extremely versatile actor, one half of Shamitabh - Venkatesh Prabhu Kasthuri Raja aka Dhanush:
Two films in two weeks in the same month. How excited are you?
(Smiles) Well, the promotions for Shamitabh are on a bigger scale and since this film releases first, all my energies are focused on it. Once Shamitabh hits the screens, I will have a week to promote Anegan, which should be good. February couldn't have got better. I am very happy.
Working with the legendary Amitabh Bachchan in your second Bollywood film must have been quite an experience.
Working with him was nothing less than an adventure. I was very excited and thrilled. Each day on the set was like a learning experience. I observed him a lot. It was a phenomenal experience to watch the legend himself perform live in front of my eyes.
I have nothing to lose, so I am free to experiment with my characters. Also, I am aware that I am not really the quintessential hero material
Absolutely! In fact, I am just happy to be a small part of it. I couldn't have asked for a better second film. I have been trying to mix my characters as much as possible. But down South, there is a certain of image of me that has stuck, so I am restricted. Here, I have nothing to lose, so I am free to experiment with my characters. Also, I am aware that I am not really the quintessential hero material. Plus post Raanjhanaa, the scripts that came my way were very similar. Some were actually good, but I just thought they were not apt for me. This wait was definitely long and agonizing, but Shamitabh was the best thing that could happen.
Tell us about K.V.Anand's Anegan. The trailer looks very promising.
At its core, the film is a love story and shows how love finds its way against all odds. It is very different from the kind of films I have done in the past. There are different looks and set ups involved. It was definitely one exciting project and will be one of my biggest Tamil releases, with 400+ screens in Tamil Nadu and some 1000+ screens overall, excluding the Hindi version. I couldn't have asked god for anything better (smiles).
Did it help having a challenging and emotionally packed film like Raanjhanaa as your launch vehicle, in order to put a firm foot in Bollywood?
That film means everything to me. It's like my identity card. Even if I shower the best of praises and compliments on Raanjhanaa, it will never be enough. I am what I am in Bollywood today because of that film.
I couldn't complete my education, nor can I speak good English. I haven’t experienced college life. But today, I feel like it hasn't been that bad a journey
Talking about your beginnings, what was it like being a part of a film family?
It's not like the typical film family stories. I have seen my father struggle and work really hard. During his younger days, my father worked in a mill and our family lived in a very small room. We would go days with just one meal. So yes, I have seen poverty up close during my younger days. My father would pen a lot of stories. After working in the mill, he used to come home, write stories and sell it to people, who would then sell the same stories to film makers, calling it their own. It was through one such contact that he got a break in the Tamil film industry as an assistant director. He worked hard for almost 15 years before making his directorial debut.
Your journey from a 16-year-old newbie to the Superstar down South has been quite something. Was acting always on the cards?
Not really. I was more keen on becoming a Marine Engineer. At 16, I wasn't ready to do get into films and would often cry. My father wanted to start filming within a week and was looking for a school boy to play the role, so he asked me to step in. Today, I am glad I didn't take a step back. It is only with time and a few films down the line that I realized, I cannot do anything else. I suffer from stage fright and just being around people makes me nervous. But, when I am in front of the camera, I feel comfortable. I couldn't complete my education, nor can I speak good English. I haven’t experienced college life. But today, I feel like it hasn't been that bad a journey. 30 films, a National award and being in the industry for more than 13-14 years makes you realize that it has all been worth it.
How did you handle the early criticism that came your way?
More than the critics and my work, I was more worried about how my friends or relatives would talk to me. In addition, I knew that my looks would be criticized. But being a director’s son, I understood that only the script and your performance matters, not looks. The script, that may look like mere pages, can create a star out of an actor, no matter how he looks. And the same can bring him down too. So, I don't think about criticism, competition or anything. I just put my blinders on, read scripts, focus on the projects and allow my work to do the talking.
The script, that may look like mere pages, can create a star out of an actor, no matter how he looks
Has the pressure of being Superstar Rajinikanth's son-in-law affected you?
It doesn't affect me. I am a huge, huge fan of him. I have always been happy to be his son-in-law and our relationship is extremely precious to me. Call me his son-in-law, fan or even a driver, it will still be an honor. As for the pressure, I don't really take it. I allow my films to speak for themselves. If the audience likes my work, they will eventually know and appreciate me for who I am.
Vela Illa Pattathari was your 25th film down South. After hitting one milestone after another, how do you look back at your journey as an actor?
While I can't thank god enough for all that he has bestowed upon me, I feel 25 films is very little for me to turn and look back. Maybe, I will be more comfortable to answer this when I cross 50 films (smiles).
So, what's next for you after Shamitabh?
I prefer taking one step ahead at a time and like taking things as they come my way. After Shamitabh, as I mentioned, there is Anegan. Then in Hindi, I will be doing Aanand.L.Rai's next film, which is a love story. In Tamil, I am working with director Balaji Mohan on a family entertained titled Maari, which is a name, the first look of which was revealed in November last year. And then there is my production venture titled Kaaki Sattai, which releases on February 27.

Sonam Kapoor
I tend to trust peope very easily - Sonam Kapoor | Exclusive Interview
She is not your quintessential 'heroine', who likes to maintain a one hand distance while talking to the media. Nor is she a diplomatic actress, who will count her words before making anything public. Far from the clubs formed within this industry and mutual admiration societies, Sonam Kapoor is busy building her own empire. At 29, the actress has pretty much achieved everything that any other girl could only dream of. From making the paparazzi and fashion mavens from across the globe go gaga over her red carpet choices at the Cannes to becoming the first Indian Disney princess, Sonam has done it all.
Sonam is one of the very few female actors who will always impress you with her sartorial choices. For someone who can tell her Prada from Gucci, the actress is always well turned out (she credits some of it to her sister Rhea). We meet her in between a long day of interviews at a suburban hotel and as always, the chic actress left us impressed with her outfit of the day; a Geisha Designs dress . But even before we could compliment her look, she exclaimed, "I love that shade of red lipstick on you. Is it the Pure Red collection by L'Oreal? (laughs) That colour perfectly compliments your skin tone and looks lovely on you." That, of course, came minutes before we congratulated her for looking gorgeous in the new L'Oreal Paris campaign. All we could do is grin and feel happy to get a flattering remark from the fashionista, who can make even the most boring days Mondays brighter with her presence and excellent responses. Yes, she is an absolute delight when it comes to interviews.
With this week's release Dolly ki Doli, Sonam is all set to con her way into your hearts. The promos are already catching up, and so are the songs. She is pretty much the 'hero' of this film with a long list of Dulhas still waiting for Dolly to return and the actress confessed that she can't wait to see the final audience reaction this weekend. Excerpts from a 'cray cray' (if I am allowed to say so) conversation with fashion's own sweetheart - Sonam Kapoor.
During an earlier interview, you had mentioned that you always like to prepare for a role before getting down to filming it. Was it the same with Dolly ki Doli?
Yes, of course! So, I did some solo workshops, some sessions with the director and then, there were group workshops with my co-stars. As part of my research, I also saw a few films, read some stories and also went through some YouTube videos. But in order to get into the character, I would make occasional notes and try to understand Dolly's past. Like, how she would behave or react to a certain situation. The film only focuses on the period of 15-20 days in her life and the running time is just around 90 minutes or more. So, it was important for me to understand, what exactly made her the way she is.
What was it like to step into Dolly's shoes?
The thing about Dolly is that she is completely the opposite of me. She thinks a lot before speaking (laughs), which I am not known for. Dolly is extremely calculating and everything that she does is planned. She knowingly becomes what her target (the guy) needs. She cons a guy by becoming the dream woman of his life. So yeah, it was difficult, because being someone else is never easy.
The thing about Dolly is that she is completely the opposite of me. She thinks a lot before speaking, which I am not known for
Since you con different people, will we see you sport different looks in the film?
Oh yes! So, she visits each of these guys in a different avatar. And when she is back to being Dolly, she has a completely disparate look. I think when you see the film, the audience will understand what I am talking about. I want you to see it for yourself and tell me how distinct each looks are (smiles).
Did you expect the kind of reaction that your first look in Dolly ki Doli got from people across the globe?
Honestly, I know that every time a poster or still from my film is revealed, everybody comments on my look. It just goes hand-in-hand, you know. I can't help it now (laughs). Everyone was talking about the mismatched outfit and a glimpse of the sneakers in Khoobsurat's teaser poster. But the reactions that I got for Dolly ki Doli was ridiculously crazy. It was all over the place. I kept thinking, maine toh bas lehenga pehna hain yaar! But that was the whole idea, to show the audience a glimpse of my character. One bottle of daru in hand, aviators, sneakers paired with a lehenga-choli and a leather jacket. That helped building a connection.
Your character is on a conning spree. But personally, have you ever been conned?
(laughs) Well, I have been conned. Quite a few times, actually. The fact that I am so straight forward and honest makes me believe that everyone around me is like that. Also, I tend to trust people very easily and I am extremely gullible. I guess a lot of people take advantage of that. Ah! I don't know about conning, really, but a lot of people do take advantage of me. Eventually, I do find out about it, but as I said, I am just silly enough to fall into such traps sometimes.
I tend to trust people very easily and I am extremely gullible. I guess a lot of people take advantage of that
Do you think you are comfortable in a romantic or comedy space, when compared to any other genre?
I guess, people enjoy seeing me in comedy or in real girl roles. When it comes to any genre, I don't think I have mastered anything or made myself comfortable in any space as such, because I am still a novice at everything. Contrary to my images, the characters that I portray on screen are always different. I think, people have liked seeing me in roles like Bittu (Delhi 6) or Zoya (Raanjhanaa); so I guess this is what the audience wants me to be.
Do you love experimenting and prefer variety, quality over quantity?
Absolutely! Every film or character that I have taken up is different from the other and have never done flower pot roles. Be it Aayat (Mausam - a role that is extremely close to Sonam's heart) or Bittu (Delhi 6), I always hope that my characters are remembered, whether in good or evil way. Like post Raanjhanaa, my Twitter mentions were flooded with hate messages. Stuff like, "You bitch! Kundan ko aise kaise chod diya," was something that I got to see everyday. So, I opt for unique projects on purpose and don't believe in repeating what I have portrayed once on screen. Every morning, I want to look forward to work and trying something different each day on the set. I want to put myself in situations that are alien to me, because that's the only way you can grow, not just as an artist, but also as a person. It gives me an opportunity to hone my craft, meet new people and learn from them as well. Monotony is a turn off, trust me!
As an actor, how difficult or easy is it to move from one project to another, especially when you are dealing with an emotionally packed character or film?
Oh, I remember how after Raanjhanaa, I was a wreck. I had lost almost 6kgs by the end of the film. We shot the film chronologically and when you see it, you will notice a distinct wear and tear. Especially during the second half of the film. I have cried without using glycerin. It took me at least four-five months to get out of that and felt literally empty. But after Raanjhanaa, it was a delight to work on a beautiful film like Khoobsurat, which was extremely positive, all things pretty and happy moments. So, working on Khoobsurat was like a rejuvenation. I needed films like Khoobsurat and Dolly ki Doli, before moving on to any project that is gonna be tougher on my psyche.
I want to put myself in situations that are alien to me, because that's the only way you can grow, not just as an artist, but also as a person

Which film in your journey so far do you treasure the most?
I would say Aisha. While working on this film, my sister was 21 and I was 23, totally stupid and young. In fact, had the film released maybe two-three years later, I think we could have done a much better job. When we started out, there was zero support. Dad was shooting in LA and we were literally going pillar to post, in order to get someone to make this film. And well, we used our father's name to get funding. "We are Anil Kapoor's daughters. Could you please make this film?" (laughs). Dad had no idea about this and we used his name like how! People were actually believing that we are rich, spoilt brats. But, they don't realize that we really worked hard on it. We got all our friends to help us, be it Pernia (Qureshi), Kunal (Rawal) or even the cinematographer; they are my friends. We tried to do the best we could with the budget that we had and used our own clothes. A lot of people thought it was a bunch of rich kids making a film about rich brats. But, it was Emma, after all. She wasn't like the characters in other Jane Austen novels, with ideals or deep thoughts. She was a spoilt brat who wanted to get married and Aisha was just that. A fun, happy chick flick! Also, this film made me realize that Rhea is my true partner. We had the best time making this film.
Your cousin, Arjun Kapoor, has always showered praises on you. What do you have to say about him?
He is like my jaan ka tukda. Arjun is like a teddy bear; extremely soft hearted and huggable. Very few youngsters in today's generation have this innate goodness. He is a good guy and a great brother to me, Rhea and Anshula. We have all been very close since childhood. He has gone through a lot and come out it beautifully. Also, I think he is extremely talented. Like, one on hand, he can do a 2 States and then leave you speechless with a Gunday as well.
My brother (Harshvardhan) is ridiculously hard working. I have been working for seven years and have never seen anyone work as hard as him
![]() |
And then, your brother Harshvardhan is making his debut as well.
Yeah! Well, he is a couple years younger than me and is a really good looking guy. You know, I have always believed that hard work is the only thing that can get you anywhere in life. But in this industry, hard work and luck need to go hand-in-hand. My brother is ridiculously hard working. I have been working for seven years and have never seen anyone work as hard as him. He likes to take things to another level and I think he is very lucky to be doing a film with Rakeysh Mehra sir. He met Rakeysh on the sets on Delhi 6 and worked out everything on his own. Hopefully, he will be lucky as well (smiles). I think, if he has good luck with him, then he will be the biggest star in this country. And yeah, I do have a little bias too (laughs).
What do you think is a sure-shot success formula for a film in today's day and age?
If your film is a damn good film, then I think it will work and will build a connect with the audience. Unless, you have a Shah Rukh Khan or Salman Khan (smiles). Then, that's like a phenomena. Every film starring Salman has smashed the box office records. He is someone who is in the league of say, Michael Jackson, Rajinikanth sir, Rajesh Khanna; a phenomena that just comes once in a lifetime. I think, even my dad had that thing in between. Yeh log jo bhi karte hain, log jaake dekhte aur pasand karte hain. For mortals like us, the film needs to pack a punch. And that's where the audience loyalty also comes in. Like, a lot of people have watched Khoobsurat and now, they wanna watch Dolly ki Doli. But otherwise, I just feel the trailer itself creates an impact and gives you the vibe of whether a film is going to be liked or not.
So, how's Prem Dhan Ratan Payo shaping up?
Very well. I have worked with Salman Khan in Saawariya and here, its like a re-hash of it. He is a kind hearted person with tons of talent. God! When he walks in, you know a star has arrived. We all feel like ordinary mortals. He is extremely hot!

Food-tastic | Quick Egg Salad
Good food and fitness go hand in hand, and we personally don't believe in diet fads. Starting today, Diary of a Dancebee will bring you healthy recipes, which are quick, easy to make and good for health too. This week, we have got a fun breakfast recipe - a Quick Egg salad, which is not only filling, but also quite high on the health meter (and let us add, the Dancebee can't eat this. She swears by vegetarianism. So, she whipped up the same dish by replacing Egg with Tofu).
To make this delicious salad, you will need:
2 boiled eggs
4-5 cabbage leaves (cut in square pieces)
1 onion (finely chopped)
Some freshly chopped coriander
For the dressing you will need:
1 tbsp tamarind plup
4 tbsp tomato ketchup
1 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cumin powder
Method
1. Boil water in a pan with 3-4 glasses of water.
Put the two eggs in the water and let it boil for 10-12 minutes
2. Peel and cut the egg into long pieces
3. Take a big bowl and add the cabbage, chopped onion, green chilli and coriander
4. Take another bowl and mix all the ingredients required for the dressing
5. Once the dressing is ready, pour it into the bowl of vegetables (leave a little bit of the dressing for the eggs).
Make sure the veggies are mixed well with the dressing.
6. On the serving plate, arrange the eggs and place the salad next to it.
Take the remaining dressing and pour it on each egg.
Your Egg Salad is now ready to serve!

5 Reasons why we love R... Rajkumar
So, its been a year since the Shahid Kapoor - Sonakshi Sinha starrer R... Rajkumar hit the screens (Wow! A year already). Yes, you read that right. This high-on entertainment, roller coaster ride of a film released this day, last year and went on to earn the highest opening weekend collection for Kapoor at the box office. Watching the film at a single screen theater for a treat, with people whistling, singing, and some, even creating a group to dance together on Gandi Baat, almost as if the others had gathered for a karaoke party and not a film. Those who know me will tell you that I saw the film four times at different theaters, purely because of its entertainment value (and Shahid Kapoor, of course).
While we can list down a zillion reasons why we love this film, to celebrate this day, we have got the top five reasons as to why we love R... Rajkumar and can't get enough of its awesomeness.
1. Saree ke fall sa and Gandi Baat
They were playing it here, they were playing it there. Well, they were playing these songs everywhere. Both Saree ke fall sa and Gandi Baat became an anthem of sorts, especially during the marriage and party season last year. In fact, the fever did not die down till Holi this year, where we heard people blasting this number on full volume at celebrations. These two fun, quirky tracks were also a favourite at the Ganpati immersion processions this year.
PS: The Dancebee has got these two songs on the loop, all the time.

4. The Cast and Director Prabhu Dheva
Instead of roping in several people and having a huge ensemble cast, Prabhu Dheva just had a few key characters and each actor chosen to play the part did perfect justice to their respective roles. Be it Sonu Sood as the baddie Shivraj or Ashish Vidyarthi as the crazy Mamaji and even Mukul Dev. Even Sonakshi was perfect as the muffat village girl, who doesn't give a damn. Shahid Kapoor? *coughs* Let's reserve this for later. And of course, how can we forget Prabhu Dheva, who churned out this mass entertainer, which made people turn back to the cinema halls for watching this film again and again.
5. Shahid Kapoor
Let's just say we couldn't have asked for a better Romeo Rajkumar. Everyone who has seen this film will agree that Shahid Kapoor was the soul of this film. He danced all the way into our hearts, in a never before seen avatar. At a time when haters and negative folks were busy pooh-poohing his choices, he took up the challenge of turning into a village romeo, mouthing filmy dialogues and performing stunts like never before. Falling down, injuring himself while dancing and venturing in to a new zone was definitely a huge risk. But he eventually came out with a beaming smile and tons of success, something that all the Shanatics (and I am) quite proud of.
So, this weekend, in case you are planning to just take the cosy route and snuggle up inside a comfortable blankie to watch a film, watch R... Rajkumar and be entertained!

2. The Dialogues
Admit it! If you love a good, masala drama, then chances are that you have laughed your heart out while watching this film. Especially at some insane dialogues and situations. "Silence ho jaa, varna main violent ho jaunga" is one favorite dialogue that we will all swear by. Then we have got the scene where Shahid tries to save an old man, who instead of being thankful, says - "Paani, paani. Ice milega?" Then you have got the evergreen Asrani, who keeps the humor flow going with his Bhavishyavaani. But the 'height' of humor (quite literally) is the conversation between Shahid and Sonakshi, where she tells him - "Teri toh height bhi nahin milti mujhse," to which he says, "Height veight se kuch nahin hota. Pyaar dil se hota hain." That's what we call, 'heights of filmyness'.

3. The Choreography
Have we told you, innumerable people have tried their hand (and feet) at the signature steps of songs like Gandi Baat, Saree ke fall sa and Mat maari among others? Yes, its true. Vishnudheva and Prabhu Dheva have done an impeccable job with the choreography. If there is anyone who has pushed Shahid to come out of his comfort zone as a dancer and experiment with new moves, it is them (and Shahid confessed the same during an earlier interview, where he mentioned that Prabhu Dheva comes from a totally different school of dancing, which was a challenge for him). Be it the floor chunk of movements performed by Shahid and Prabhu Dheva or solo chunk performed by Shahid in front of a mahal and earlier, in the song opening of Saree ke fall sa, we can't help but laud the choreography in this film. If you haven't tried those moves already, do it, I say. We have already got a routine ready.

I don't believe in six packs - Ajay Devgn | Exclusive Interview
I happened to meet the face of all things
action, the person who took a quirky dialogue like 'Aata majhi satakli'
to the league of 'Mere pass maa hain', the personality who is synonymous
with the name Bajirao Singham, on a quiet and pleasant Saturday afternoon.
Co-incidentally, it also happened to be the day when he marked his debut in the
Hindi Film Industry, with the super hit 1991 romantic-drama Phool aur Kaante. "Wow,
really? I have completed 23 years in the industry today? Didn't remember that.
Thanks for informing me. It sure has been a long journey," he said, when
reminded about the special day.
Actor Ajay Devgn, who is making waves with
his brand new avatar in Prabhu Dheva's Action Jackson, is a busy man, as apart
from focusing on his production ventures (one of the recent ones being the
Marathi film Vitti Dandu,
which was a treat to watch), he is also gearing up for his second directorial
venture, Shivay.
Excerpts from a fun conversation with the talented actor, where he talks about his new release Action Jackson, directorial venture Shivay, and why he doesn't promote the concept of six pack abs.

Your look in Action Jackson is very different. Did you undergo any
particular fitness regime to achieve it?
Not really, but I did lose a lot of
weight. Prabhu wanted me to achieve a lean look and stray away from the look I
had worked on for Singham.
The main reason behind this was the fact that Martial Arts is an integral part
in the film, so I worked on getting a leaner body. Also, I had not trained with
swords since quite sometime, which I used to do earlier, so I took a little
time to get back to it as well.
Is it difficult to maintain a body like
the one you have achieved?
Not very difficult, because we maintain a
decent body. If you have to get into the kind of look that I am sporting in the
film, then it takes at least a month to tone up completely. Starting from
scratch would be a problem, so we always maintain it. Also, I don't believe in
six packs, because it is technically not good for one's body. For Action Jackson, we went for a
lean body with zero fat on the stomach.
Do you see any difference between the kind
of action and stunts that are shown today, as compared to your earlier days in
the industry?
Absolutely! It was much more difficult
that time. Stunts and action is a lot more easier because of the new
techniques, technology and the safety measures. People can use harnesses today,
which wasn't the norm back in time. But, I try to avoid using a harness as much
as I can, unless the stunt really requires me to use one.
Your character in this film is a breakaway
from the image of a good cop that you have built with the Singham franchise. Were there any
apprehensions about playing a baddie?
Well, it is not just a breakaway from my
role of a good cop. I have done various films and have convinced the audience
with each portrayal. If I did Singham,
then I have also done something like a Once
Upon A Time In Mumbai, where my character and performance was equally
appreciated. Then there was Company.
So, I have done a lot of films that belong to the Underworld genre. That way, I
have always done a mix of good and bad roles. Hence, there weren't any
apprehensions.
Stunts and action is a lot more easier because of the new techniques, technology and the safety measures. People can use harnesses today, which wasn't the norm back in time
A lot of your fans have been asking if
they will see you in a comedy film anytime soon.
But, Action Jackson has a lot of comedy.
Though there is tons of action, you will see a lot of comedy as well. We all
know that the Prabhu Dheva style of humor is fantastic and hilarious.
Personally, I do not like the buffoonery kind of comedy. But, Prabhu's style of
comedy is not just like ki bas
kuch ulta seedha bol diya. It is not about the dialogues, but a lot to do
with the comic timing, which is fabulous.
You have worked with various directors,
including Rohit Shetty, who just like Prabhu Dheva, is known for his masala action/comedy entertainers. Do you
personally believe their approach is similar?
Not at all! Both the directors are
completely different. Its true that they direct entertainers, but their style
of film-making is completely different. Prabhu has a different approach towards
a particular subject, while Rohit believes in a different style all together.
Prabhu presents his characters in a very stylish and sleek way, while Rohit
keeps things very real. Even their approach towards action is dissimilar. In Action Jackson, the action is
stylized.
Several people who have worked with Prabhu
Dheva before call him a demanding director. What was your experience?
Every good director has to be demanding.
Its mostly with the newcomers that one has to be strict, because they are
fresh, raw and their potential needs to be extracted in the right way. But on a
personal note, I think he (Prabhu Dheva) is a very cool guy. It was fun working
with him.
And what about the dance? It is a Prabhu
Dheva film, after all.
How was it dancing in the song, Keeda?
(laughs) Honestly, I was quite prepared.
Even during the script reading sessions, I trusted him completely, because I
believe he is the best choreographer we have in our country. And Keeda (laughs) well, I really don't know what
I have done.
Every good director has to be demanding. Its mostly with the newcomers that one has to be strict, because they are fresh, raw and their potential needs to be extracted in the right way
You have always stayed away from booking
festival dates and the entire release monopoly.
How would you comment on this fight for
release dates as far as 2016?
I have always stood by the fact that no
monopoly is good for this industry and in the future, it will eventually
decline. No one can just get up and decide ki yeh date humne book kar liya
hain. We need to understand that several films are being made and everyone is
eyeing a good release date. Either you need a holiday or a long run. Like for Action Jackson, we haven't got
a Holiday, but we have got two weeks before the next film (PK) comes up.
So, multiple films will clash and that is exactly what happened with Jab Tak
Hain Jaan and Son of Sardar. Both the films did well. If there is space for two
films, then everything is fair. Whatever is good will eventually be a hit.
Plus, distributors have also balanced things out.
How was heading towards the Marathi film
industry as a presenter like?
When the script of Vitti Dandu came to me, I really liked it and
decided to back the film. The story really inspired me. Its a touching story
about the relationship of a grandfather and grandson and is set during the
1940s.
Are all your energies now focused on Shivay, since you don't have any
release in 2015?
Yes! And that is exactly what I have been
planning since the last three years. I wanted to take an entire year off and
concentrate on this project, which I will be directing. We start shooting in
January. I will also be acting in the film. In Shivay, you will see a lot of
action, but there is also an emotional base. There will be a lot of intensity
and drama in the film. You won't see item numbers. There will be romantic
songs, but not the unnecessary kinds. They will be used to take the story
forward. Many people have asked me if the emotion in this film will be similar
to my directorial debut (U, Me aur Hum) and my answer is that it will be
emotional in a different way. U,
Me aur Hum dealt with
Alzheimer, which many people did not understand. But Shivay will be different.
Apart from Shivay, I will also be
presenting Gangaajal 2.
I don't believe in six packs, because it is technically not good for one's body. For Action Jackson, we went for a lean body with zero fat on the stomach
And what about Raajneeti 2 and Satsang?
Will you present and act in them?
He is still working on these scripts, so I
can't really comment. The idea of that film (Satsang) is pretty good,
but we will still have to figure things out. As far as acting in them is
concerned, a lot will depend on how the final script eventually turns out.
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge will complete 1000 weeks on December 12.
Tell us a little bit about the first time you saw this film.
(laughs) Honestly, I still haven't seen
this film. It just so happened that I never got the chance to watch it. And
once the film has released and it has been long, you don't really get back to
it. In fact, I hardly get the time to watch my own films. There are several
films where I have worked, which I still haven't seen. I watch a lot of
International cinema and also take keen interest in some Indian films as well.

The Hunger Games Mockingjay
Natalie Dormer on The Hunger Games: Mockingjay (Part 1)
Actress Natalie Dormer has performed for various mediums of entertainment, be it theatre, television or the big screen, and has earned great success everywhere. The 32-year-old, who turned heads with her decision to shave off the left side of her luscious locks for her latest release, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1, has never shied away from experimenting with her on-screen appearance. The same goes for her choice of characters in films and television shows, as she has featured in a variety of them, ranging from Private Lorraine in Captain America: The First Avenger, Victoria in Casanova, Margery Tyrell in the popular series Game of Thrones, and now, in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay as Cressida, a young media-savvy rebel, who makes “propos” - a mix of viral advertising, on-the-fly news clips and inspirational messages, that is the only way for rebels to communicate with the outside world.
Excerpts from an interesting tete-a-tete with the English actress.
How would you describe Cressida, your character's mission in The Hunger Games?
Cressida is a documentary film maker, who has been given the job of creating propos, the package that will galvanize the revolution. So its a very specific task.
Your look in the film has attracted several eyeballs. What do you have to say about it?
Well, you can see that Cressida comes from the Capitol. I think the whole hairstyle and tattoo tells you that she is different kind of a Capitol resident, or maybe, she has this hangover from a previous existence that she had. So, that’s one of the reasons why Francis Lawrence and I chose to shave off half my hair, as opposed to all of it, because we thought it maybe a more stylistic choice that a Capitol resident would have made. Kurt and Bart (costume designers) are just incredible. Whatever I say will never be enough. They are extraordinary!
Once you got your look right (the half shaved head), what was going on in your mind?
Um, well! I was feeling a lot lighter. Also, spending less time in the shower (laughs). Well, to be honest, it was very liberating. As a woman, you know so much of aesthetic, cosmetics and all, you know. Our identity is bound up in our hair as a woman, and it is also considered to be a sense of attractiveness. So, it is kind of liberating, to just, kind of get rid of half of that. It changed my look dramatically, and voila! There she was - Cressida.
![]() |
| Natalie Dormer sporting the half shaved hairstyle at the Screen Guild Awards earlier this year |
How was it working with the director, Francis Lawrence?
Francis Lawrence was fantastic, because he gave me free range, to sort of, ad-lib a bit. You know, I did not specifically stick to what was scripted for Cressida. I felt like I had the control and could order my camera crew, ask Jen (Jennifer Lawrence) to start a line, stop a line, without her knowing I was going to do that. And that, I think, was very useful for both of us. I was literally standing next to her for nearly nine months you know, as a documentary film maker would. Like just don’t mind me, you know, just carry on. So, I mean, it was very interesting.
And what was it like to work with Jennifer Lawrence?
The energy on set was very buoyant and a lot of fun, We joke around most of the times. Jen has that energy, and so does Liam (Hemsworth) and Josh (Hutcherson). So, you sort of get sucked into that kind of fun in between takes quite easily. And, you need it on that kind of long intensive shoot days, especially with that kind of subject matter, to lighten the load a bit. It was a really good experience.

Saif Ali Khan
Saif Ali Khan Interview
I was a misguided youth who didn't know what to do in life - Saif Ali Khan | Exclusive Interview
Around the same time, last year, actor Saif Ali Khan was busy promoting Tigmanshu Dhulia's Bullet Raja. The film may have failed to hit the bulls eye, but the actor, who was appreciated for his performance, quickly moved on to his next project, Humshakals. This one too, unfortunately, failed miserably. But the suave Nawab that he is, Khan accepted the failure of his last two projects and gracefully moved on to promote his latest flick, Happy Ending, which has hit the cinema halls today. Apart from playing two roles in the film, Happy Ending also happens to be his production venture under Illuminati Films.
While talking to us on a quiet Saturday afternoon, at the good ol' Mehboob studios, Khan sounded extremely positive. "We are just bringing the real genre of romantic - comedy back, without any experiments. I am not just saying this because it is my film, but this is good stuff," he stated. Dressed in his casual best and a beret cap to go with an otherwise relaxed outfit (taking a cue from his look in the film, maybe?), Khan settled down to chat with us about his role in Happy Ending, working with Govinda, the sequel to Go Goa Gone and why he doesn't want to play second lead roles anymore.
I am curious to know about the two characters that you will be seen portraying in this film. How are different are they?
They are very different. Yudi is a writer who lives in Los Angeles. He is a lazy guy, who keeps getting stuck in some funny problem or another. In a comedy like this, you enjoy the character and his problems, because they don't appear drastic and hence, one doesn't take them too seriously. There is a little vulnerability to the character, which is different for a romantic-comedy, because is losing his job and money to a girl, who he later falls in love with. The second character, Yogi, is more of an alter-ego. So, the two have different rhythms of talking and several scenes are shot with the two of them together. So, while shooting the film, it was just me, but when you see the film, you will think of it as two different people having a conversation. It was great fun.
Was there a certain level of comfort while working with directors Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K after Go Goa Gone?
Oh yes! And its not because of Go Goa Gone, but because of the kind of people that we are. We connect to each other's sense of humor and well, are not very mainstream. But, the use of humor is quite mainstream. They are smart guys and I like working with them. Since our sense of humor is common, when they write the dialogue and I enact the scenes, the result is very natural. Nothing looks forced.
So, can we expect a sequel to Go Goa Gone anytime soon?
Yes, it will definitely make for a good sequel. We are still working on the script. I think, the whole zombie thing was a little alienated. So, we want the sequel to be a little more universal. Maybe, a more adult comedy.
How would you describe the experience of working with Govinda for the first time?
He is amazing and I personally believe that people will enjoy watching him on screen in this role. He is a genius where comedy is concerned. But, there is something special about working with him this time, because since the last time we saw him on screen, we are shooting films a little differently. The colors are brighter, the cameras have advanced, so he is looking better than ever. Also, dancing next to him in G phaad ke was an interesting experience, because he makes every piece of choreography look very easy and I really love watching him dance on screen. In fact, back in the 90s, we were supposed to work together in a project helmed by Sanjay Chhel. But just after two days of work, the film got shelved.
Yes, it (Go Goa Gone) will definitely make for a good sequel. We are still working on the script. I think, the whole zombie thing was a little alienated. So, we want the sequel to be a little more universal
You recently mentioned that you watch very few Bollywood films. True?
Yes. The reason is quite simple, because I think of it as work. I don't want to come back home and put on a Hindi film, after being on the sets of a Bollywood film all day. If I do, I can't enjoy it just like a film. I will end up looking at the technical aspects or just think, "Oh! Even we should do something like this." But, having said that, I love watching television and I live for films. I remember, as a kid in Delhi, I would make it a point to watch every single English film from my video library. Sajid (Khan) and I have that in common, as we have almost seen every single film, but then, he has seen the Hindi ones too. I haven't (smiles).
Since you loved watching films as a kid, was Bollywood always on the cards for you?
No, not at all. In fact, I was a misguided youth and wasn't a very good example. I wasn't serious about studies, nor did I know what I want to do in life. I wasting time and was more interested in partying, girls, than serious work. It maybe normal and fortunately for me, things worked out as I grew up. But, there was never a specific aim that, "hey, this is what I wanna do."
Any particular reason why you stay away from Masala films or entertainers?
I don't know. There are so many different types of films that are being offered today. But, I think I have an appeal in at least a niche that is quite wide. I remember Aditya Chopra telling me that the kind of stuff that I am doing is fit for a multiplex hero. Today, the multiplex hero is a big slot. So, it is difficult to judge. Personally, I like to maintain a balance of light-hearted and artistic films. Like, the period between 2005-2006 was very good, because I had films like Salaam Namaste, Parineeta and Omkara releasing around the same time. All of them belonged to different genres, but it wasn't like I didn't fit the bill. The milieu of a Bengali character Shekhar suits me just as well as the urban vibe of a guy like Nikhil Arora living in Australia. And of course, something like a Langda Tyagi is never going to happen again.
I was a misguided youth and wasn't a very good example. I wasn't serious about studies, nor did I know what I want to do in life
Will we see you collaborate with Shah Rukh Khan or Vishal Bhardwaj again, since you have delivered great hits with them in the past?
Well, right now, working with Shah Rukh Khan would mean settling down with a small role. I would rather play the main role in a film produced by Illuminati. I don't think I will ever get a role like the one in Kal Ho Na Ho, along with Shah Rukh Khan. It was almost my film. It took a lot of work, in order to get out of working as the second lead in films. It is okay for actors to feel important in our own universes. So, I don't want to go back to doing that. As far as Vishal is concerned, he has to write something that will take us beyond Omkara.
What's next for your fans?
I have got a film with Reema Kagti, which will be produced by Excel Entertainment. Then, there is also Phantom. And right now, I am looking forward to the response that Happy Ending receives.
I don't think I will ever get a role like the one in Kal Ho Na Ho, along with Shah Rukh Khan. It was almost my film
