13 Years of Shahid Kapoor | 5 Favorite Performances
OMG! Look who has completed 13 years in the industry. It was this day, back in 2003, that we saw Shahid Kapoor make a dhamakedaar debut in Ishq Vishk. Since then, the actor has never looked back. For someone who entered the Indian Film Industry at an early age, Shahid has experimented with a variety of different genres, worked with some of the finest directors, production houses and the best female actors. Apart from films, the actor has time and again proved his incredible dancing and hosting skills at various award functions.
The result? Millions of fans (8.3M on Twitter alone, to be precise) across the globe and multiple fan-bases worldwide, where members keep increasing at the speed of lightening. And those moves! Gosh, how can anyone not love the way he dances? So, picking a few favourites from 24 unique films is no mean feat, especially if you are someone who has seen all of them on repeat. But still, we present to you our favorite Shahid Kapoor performances.
Haider
Let's start off with the film that enjoyed a successful award spell last year! Shahid's impeccable performance as Haider Meer in this film made sure that leaves the theatre min blown, including me. Hamlet aka Haider was a challenge that Shahid accepted with great confidence and his dedication was hard to miss. He got into the skin of his character with great ease, connected with the audience through an array of emotions, gave the film his all and ultimately, proved that his acting prowess is unmatched. Critics, take that!
Jab We Met
We all love Jab We Met, don't we? And we can't help but fall in love with Shahid Kapoor memorable portrayal of the adorable Aditya Kashyap. Like imagine, The Aditya Kashyap, the guy who falls head over heels in love with the jhalli Geet, and goes all the way till Shimla and Manali looking for her. Shahid breathed life into Aditya (India's answer to Mr.Darcy) with his calm and natural performance. The way Shahid essayed Aditya's character with perfect style and charisma is a good example of how even the most simplest of characters can stay with you for good.
Kaminey

Usne F ko F bola, and that was enough for the entire nation to stand up and take notice of him. It was amazing to see Shahid's successful transition from a lover struck boy in Kismat Konnection to playing complex characters in the following year. He took things a notch above by shedding his boy next door for a more rugged, tapori avatar in Vishal Bhardwaj's Kaminey. It made for a visual treat, the kind of cinema that you wouldn't mind watching back-to-back in a cinema hall. The film presented a never before seen side of the actor. In this sinister plot, with the perfect mix of violence and dark humour, Shahid played the role of twins with speech defects and boy, he sure did a fantastic job!
Vivah
The film did great business at the box office, and it further established Shahid as not just the fun-loving college going boy, but also someone who can play the part of a mature, supportive lover with ease. This film was a high point in Shahid's third year as an actor, as the film earned him a lot of accolades and acclaim. Plus, he played the epitome of love in Sooraj Barjatya films - Prem, quite convincingly. With the perfect blend of emotions, subtle charm and that adorable look, we surely enjoyed watching Shahid in Vivah.
R... Rajkumar
Shahid teaming up with Prabhu Dheva was enough to get us jumping with joy. While most critics may differ with our opinion (I don't know why), R... Rajkumar was one of Shahid's exceptional performances. He was everything that a massy hero of a masala film would require. Action, drama, dance aur emotion; you name it and Shahid nailed them all. The actor confessed that it was quite a task to step into the shoes of a masala action hero, especially with all those moves that Prabhu sir made him do, but we couldn't have had it any other way. Nobody can do a Gandi Baat or Saree ke fall sa like Shahid can. Also, Silent ho ja, varna main violent ho jaunga is one cool dialogue.
Ahem!
So, while I am done with that tough task of putting together a top 5 list (in random order), I would like to add one more film. Although it went largely unnoticed (unfortunately), I really thought Shahid's performance as the ambitious Karan in Badmaash Company made quite an impact.
We can't wait to watch Shahid create magic with two completely different characters - that of a rockstar and a war soldier in his upcoming films, Udta Punjab and Rangoon. We have been trippin' on Chitta Ve already. What about you?
Got a favorite Shahid Kapoor film or want to wish the actor on completing 13 years in the industry?

Review | 5 reasons why you must watch Shamitabh
So, one of 2015's much anticipated release - Shamitabh, has been viewed and that too, twice (press show and then, another trip with the family). While I can't stop raving about how handsome Mr.Bachchan looks in the film and how Dhanush wins our heart with his incredible act, we must give it to R.Balki for experimenting with a fresh and unique plot. Being a voice actress, I do understand the importance that voice acting plays, be it in a television commercial or film. It can make or break an individual's career and hence, several actors have opted for voice over artistes in their early films. While some critics may argue over the length and pace of Shamitabh and analyse it in their own way, I thought we needed this kind of a film that not only celebrates cinema, but also the support behind it. We give you 5 reasons why we loved Shamitabh and why you must watch it soon!
1. Amitabh Bachchan
The name says it all. Mr.Bachchan's performance in any film needs no introduction or recommendation. He is known to raise the bar and make any role look real. So real, that you tend to cry while seeing him shed tears on screen. And he does that exactly that to the cynical, old and drunken Amitabh Sinha, his character in the film. The energy, emotion, expression and above all, his charisma is absolutely phenomenon. There couldn't have been a better tribute than making a film that is dedicated to his rich, priceless baritone. Remember how the receiver would burst into tears on the phone after hearing, "Hello, Main Amitabh Bachchan bol raha hoon..." on Kaun Banega Crorepati? Yes, his magical voice has got that effect and his performance in Shamitabh is absolutely flawless. Be it mouthing those dialogues in style or walking inside the graveyard while looking dapper in a velvet blazer, you have to witness the Bachchan magic. Do not miss the last 15 minutes of the film. It left me with a lump in my throat. Respect!
2. Dhanush's incredible act
I loved his performance in Raanjhanaa. But in Shamitabh, Dhanush goes a notch above with a great act. As the film fanatic Danish, Dhanush wins your heart with his journey from struggling to find a foothold in the industry to becoming the biggest superstar in Bollywood. One can witness the change in his body language and style, as the film progresses. Dhanush has confidently pulled off scenes where he challenges Mr.Bachchan and has performed some emotional scenes in the most natural way. Don't miss a sequence where Dhanush stylishly poses for the shutterbugs, while playing around with Phantom cigarettes. It will remind you a lot of Rajini sir. With Shamitabh, Dhanush has proved that if an actor gives it his best, he can deliver a memorable performance, even without mouthing a single dialogue.
3. Illaiyaraaja's music and background score
This is not your usual Bollywood fare. The music in Shamitabh is unconventional and yet, the compositions touch your heart. Mr.Bachchan sings Piddly effortlessly and the stylish tunes that go with it make this song extremely addictive. Stereophonic Sannata and Ishq-e-fillum fit the script perfectly, with the latter proving to be an ode to film buffs, who can never get enough of cinema. There is also a track called Lifebuoy, which again, is included keeping the plot in mind. I love Caralisa's rendition of Shamitabh, another stylish track that you might continue humming even after the film. The background score is apt and does not overpower the scenes.
4. Understanding why Ego is useless
Ego does nothing except harming an individual. And Shamitabh puts this across very well. With fame comes ego and Danish's (Shamitabh) greed for doing everything his way. Well, that does not go down too well with Amitabh, who decides to teach him a lesson in his own way. Needless to say, both fail and things that follow only prove that both were incomplete without each other. It was ego that led them and their success towards destruction. Shamitabh is a lesson in letting go of both internal and external conflicts as well as the 'E' word (ego, I mean).
5. Dialogues
The subtle yet sharp humor and brilliantly penned dialogues add an additional charm. Although the whiskey-paani dialogue was a tad bit overplayed, we still love it. There are tons of memorable dialogues that will stay with you after the film. And, don't miss portions where the dialogues mouthed by Dhanush and Mr.Bachchan mirror the situations faced by them in real life (jokes on Dhanush's persona or rejection as an RJ for Bachchan). We love how the writers have thrown in witty lines to keep the flow going. There are references to the way things work in Bollywood, be it a journalist's question about Dhanush's six pack abs or the scene where Dhanush mumbles that award functions are fixed; it is amazing how the film that celebrates cinema, sportingly takes a dig at it too.
and a special mention
We love how Balki has moved up the names of Mr.Bachchan, Dhanush and Akshara's valets in the closing credits. Don't know if you noticed, but for me, it was lovely to see their names appear before the rest of the crew. Even they deserve some love, right? (And I am sure Amitabh Sinha will agree, because he frowned after looking at his own name appear towards the end, as Shamitabh's valet - Robert).
Well, these reasons should be enough for you to drag yourself to the cinema hall. Now!

5 Reasons why we love R... Rajkumar
So, its been a year since the Shahid Kapoor - Sonakshi Sinha starrer R... Rajkumar hit the screens (Wow! A year already). Yes, you read that right. This high-on entertainment, roller coaster ride of a film released this day, last year and went on to earn the highest opening weekend collection for Kapoor at the box office. Watching the film at a single screen theater for a treat, with people whistling, singing, and some, even creating a group to dance together on Gandi Baat, almost as if the others had gathered for a karaoke party and not a film. Those who know me will tell you that I saw the film four times at different theaters, purely because of its entertainment value (and Shahid Kapoor, of course).
While we can list down a zillion reasons why we love this film, to celebrate this day, we have got the top five reasons as to why we love R... Rajkumar and can't get enough of its awesomeness.
1. Saree ke fall sa and Gandi Baat
They were playing it here, they were playing it there. Well, they were playing these songs everywhere. Both Saree ke fall sa and Gandi Baat became an anthem of sorts, especially during the marriage and party season last year. In fact, the fever did not die down till Holi this year, where we heard people blasting this number on full volume at celebrations. These two fun, quirky tracks were also a favourite at the Ganpati immersion processions this year.
PS: The Dancebee has got these two songs on the loop, all the time.

4. The Cast and Director Prabhu Dheva
Instead of roping in several people and having a huge ensemble cast, Prabhu Dheva just had a few key characters and each actor chosen to play the part did perfect justice to their respective roles. Be it Sonu Sood as the baddie Shivraj or Ashish Vidyarthi as the crazy Mamaji and even Mukul Dev. Even Sonakshi was perfect as the muffat village girl, who doesn't give a damn. Shahid Kapoor? *coughs* Let's reserve this for later. And of course, how can we forget Prabhu Dheva, who churned out this mass entertainer, which made people turn back to the cinema halls for watching this film again and again.
5. Shahid Kapoor
Let's just say we couldn't have asked for a better Romeo Rajkumar. Everyone who has seen this film will agree that Shahid Kapoor was the soul of this film. He danced all the way into our hearts, in a never before seen avatar. At a time when haters and negative folks were busy pooh-poohing his choices, he took up the challenge of turning into a village romeo, mouthing filmy dialogues and performing stunts like never before. Falling down, injuring himself while dancing and venturing in to a new zone was definitely a huge risk. But he eventually came out with a beaming smile and tons of success, something that all the Shanatics (and I am) quite proud of.
So, this weekend, in case you are planning to just take the cosy route and snuggle up inside a comfortable blankie to watch a film, watch R... Rajkumar and be entertained!
Love

2. The Dialogues
Admit it! If you love a good, masala drama, then chances are that you have laughed your heart out while watching this film. Especially at some insane dialogues and situations. "Silence ho jaa, varna main violent ho jaunga" is one favorite dialogue that we will all swear by. Then we have got the scene where Shahid tries to save an old man, who instead of being thankful, says - "Paani, paani. Ice milega?" Then you have got the evergreen Asrani, who keeps the humor flow going with his Bhavishyavaani. But the 'height' of humor (quite literally) is the conversation between Shahid and Sonakshi, where she tells him - "Teri toh height bhi nahin milti mujhse," to which he says, "Height veight se kuch nahin hota. Pyaar dil se hota hain." That's what we call, 'heights of filmyness'.

3. The Choreography
Have we told you, innumerable people have tried their hand (and feet) at the signature steps of songs like Gandi Baat, Saree ke fall sa and Mat maari among others? Yes, its true. Vishnudheva and Prabhu Dheva have done an impeccable job with the choreography. If there is anyone who has pushed Shahid to come out of his comfort zone as a dancer and experiment with new moves, it is them (and Shahid confessed the same during an earlier interview, where he mentioned that Prabhu Dheva comes from a totally different school of dancing, which was a challenge for him). Be it the floor chunk of movements performed by Shahid and Prabhu Dheva or solo chunk performed by Shahid in front of a mahal and earlier, in the song opening of Saree ke fall sa, we can't help but laud the choreography in this film. If you haven't tried those moves already, do it, I say. We have already got a routine ready.

A/W '15 Favourites | Emporio Armani Eyewear
At a recent press preview organised by the awesome folks at Luxottica, I was quite impressed by some stunning new pieces launched by eye wear brands, including Emporio Armani, Prada, Versace among others. To start off our obsession, here are some of our favorite, lust worthy pieces from Emporio Armani's A/W 14-15 collection, straight off the runway, which celebrates Modern Balance, with unisex features and some formal elegance. While most pieces rock the minimalist trend, those looking for some sophisticated bling will also find some 'eye-candy' here.
1. Men's EA 2027
This stunning pair of metal sunglasses come in minimalist designs and an elegant contrast of colors. There is a two-tone contrasting mix of hues on the front edges. which looks very sexy. Top 5 Bollywood Inspired Looks for Diwali | Myntra
The festival of lights, sweets, happiness and love is just around the corner. But for shopaholics, Diwali also means putting together various outfits for the entire week. Some might get busy with card parties, while those like me would prefer a rich traiditional outfit for the Laxmi Puja at home. The festive madness kicks off on Tuesday with Dhanteras and if you still haven't got the time to shop for your outfits yet, don't fret. Because Myntra has got some eye-catching stuff for sale and you can make it your own without burning a hole in the pocket. Considering we actually heard people discuss, "Oh! So I am totally looking out for that Lungi Dance saree this year for XYZ's party," we thought of giving this post a 'filmy' tadka. So, we decided to put some of these affordable yet extremely stylish pieces from Myntra to test and create five Bollywood inspired outfits, that can fit every Diwali event this year.
1. Abhyangasnan Outfit (Diwali - 1st day)
Every Marathi household is brimming with excitement starting 4 am this day. It happens to be the first day of Diwali and we start this special day with an ubtan bath, followed by a puja, breaking of the sour cucumber (which in a way, means killing all the evils and devils around us) and finally, offering a naivedya of the super yummy, Faral (consists of all the food items prepared for Diwali).
An important occasion like this demands a comfortable outfit and this simple yet beautiful outfit we put together is inspired by Sonam Kapoor in Raanjhanaa.
An early morning affair demands something comfy yet super chic. The gold jhumkas add the perfect ethnic touch to the cotton collared kurta and yellow churidaar leggings. If you are planning to step out and wish light some diyas around your house (or meet some friends in the society), slip into these gorgeous green sandals with gold detailing. For the face, opt for a clean look with some kohl, lip balm and mascara. Who wants a face filled with make up in the wee hours? Not us.
Shop the Outfit
2. Laxmi Puja
Arranging a puja means running around the house, getting together all the important requirements and making sure that you feel comfortable while sitting cross legged for almost an hour. But at the same time, you gotta look your best, since the evening hours see endless guests as well. Moreover, it is one of the most important days of Diwali. What better than to take inspiration from the diva, Kareena Kapoor Khan's festive ethnic look in Gori Tere Pyaar Mein.
I just couldn't take my eyes off this pretty royal blue anarkali with intricate bandhani pattern on the sleeves, hem and patches around the neck. Wear it with a pair of comfortable royal blue churidaar leggings. Since red is dominantly used with yellow in the embroidery, we chose a charming pair of oxidised red drop earrings and a gunmetal silver toned red cuff. Post the puja, you can wear this studded pair of flats to complete the look, before heading out anywhere. For the face, use a sheer foundation with light compact. Wear a red lipstick in matte finish or keep it simple with just a nude lip gloss. Use a black liquid eyeliner and some kohl to give an added effect.
Shop the Outfit
3. Bali Pratipada (New Year)
The new year is all about meeting your loved ones, visiting them and spending some quality time with family over things you love. Some also prefer going out for card parties or organize a lavish house parties at their own residence. It's the new year's eve, after all, and an occasion like this demands a glamorous outfit. Can any piece of apparel look hotter than a sari? Hell no! You can never go wrong with this beauty. And when it comes to making an effortlessly stylish appearance in a sari, there is no one who can come close to Deepika Padukone, who looked gorgeous in this traditional outfit at a wedding last year.
Taking inspiration from Miss DP, we put together this high-on-bling outfit. You don't need firecrackers to brighten up this Diwali anymore, alright? This outfit should do the trick. The stunning gold sequin blouse blends well with the chiffon dark pink and blue sari, which is the only 'simple' piece in this outfit. The jhumkas, gold cuff and bangles add the extra charm. Finish this look with a classic bun and add a gajra around it, if you like. Keep the make up simple, please (but don't forget that mascara)! Allow your outfit to do the talking.
Shop the Outfit
4. Bali Pratipada (New Year) - Option 2
Incase a sari is not your thing, trade your regular SKD drill with a touch of royalty. Take inspiration from Madhuri Dixit - Nene's lucknowi andaaz in Dedh Isqhiya. You may not want to wear a heavy sharara or ghagra-choli like the ones sported by her in the film, but you can still play with the accessories, keeping the rest of the outfit simple.
The green anarkali looks playful and the pink churidar leggings adds a sweet touch to the outfit. Enter the ethnic jhumar pasa, which can clearly be the 'statement' accessory of your ensemble. Flaunt a side braid or a puffy up half down like Dixit - Nene, and wear the jhumar para on one side. Pair it up with the earrings and gold flats. Ready for some drama, are we? For the face, use a simple base with a slight touch of rose tinted blush, kajal pencil for the eyes and lots of mascara. Finish the look with a light milky coral lipstick.
Shop the Outfit
5. Bhau - Beej
The last day definitely calls for a twist. Ethnic wear need not be restricted to the good ol' salwar - kameez and sarees only. We have got patialas and ethnic jackets to play with as well. On this day, most girls are busy worshiping their brothers (a lot like raksha bandhan, except here, both the siblings exchange gifts and worship each other), exchanging gifts and making the most of Diwali happiness, before heading back to work from the next day. A funky ethnic outfit like that of Alia Bhatt in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania is just perfect. It is not just comfortable, but adds a certain spunk to your personality and looks stylish as well.
Instead of picking a kurta, we chose this sequined gold top to go with this trendy ethnic jacket. What we love about this piece is that not only can we use this as a green jacket with gold flower motifs, but also as a reversible, with gorgeous prints on the dark pink hue. So, if the touch of green doesn't work for you, just go for pink. The gold toned pink drop earrings compliments this fusion outfit well and we have added a chunky gold cuff to add some more bling. Finally, a pair of cotton patiala is just what you need to complete this outfit. Wear a simple base with black kajal pencil on the eyelids and waterline, followed by two coats of mascara. Wear a coral blush for slightly flushed cheeks, but don't overdo it. A dab of gloss or nude lip gloss is perfect to complete the look.

Top 5 picks from Accessorize A/W 2014
Rich berry tones, classy tans, parisian prints and a dash of metallic drama; one can't help but go gaga over the eye catching items available at Accessorize India. During a recent exclusive preview, we got a chance to feast our eyes on some stylish satchels, bag packs and trendy jewellery items among other things. What stood out for us were the prints and hues used in each of their five collections for the ongoing Autumn/Winter 2014 season. They were not your usual blacks and reds. Accessorize has dared to go all out with oxblood, brown, navy blue and even pop tints like pink.
From an array of items that we loved, here's presenting our top five picks, that must make their way into your wishlist (and later the wardrobe) now!
1. The PU Navy Blue college bag
This spacious and stylish backpack is all you need to store your essentials on a long day out. This has to be our favourite. It fits in our iPad, camera and make-up essentials, all in one. Also, the shoulder straps are super comfortable.
2. The Sofia handheld bag
Quite a sophisticated handbag, this one. The oxblood meets gold elements instantly caught our attention. The push lock clasp with gold detailing is oh-so-classy!
3. The Winter floral satchel
What's not to love here,eh? Right from the roomy compartments (quite spacious for a satchel) to the lovely floral print and finally, a touch of gold in those buckles. This one is a complete win-win.
4. Cara fedora hat (two colours)
What's a perfect wardrobe without some pretty hats? These gorgeous fedora hats are just what you need to pair with your dress or a lovely winter outfit comprising of a skirt, jumper, coat and a pair of comfortable boots. Winter ready, are we? Hell Yeah!
5. The Embellished clutch
Your go-to accessory for the upcoming festive season, be it a Diwali get together or marriage. This just the right amount of bling that you need to add. Notice the floral detailing, with white, lilac and a host of other coloured stones? We think it is super cool.
