Summer Runway Project
All I Want Is Summer | Reliance Trends
As the temperature continues to rise and so does the humidity, I am loving the sunny days of summer and enjoying every bit of it before the monsoons officially take over. But yes, its true that the humidity can get a little unbearable at times, especially during the peak hours of 10 am - 3 pm. If I am out during these hours, I usually ditch my denims and opt for skirts, wide legged pants in funky prints or just light, comfortable dresses. While I do have a few go-to brands that I always prefer visiting to stock up on a few summer essentials, I am always game for trying out different brands and labels. Last week, I was invited to review the Spring/Summer 2015 collection at Reliance Trends as part of the Summer Runway Project and must say, I was bowled over by the vast collection at their store, which includes a variety of different brands (including several in-house brands as well) at affordable prices. Each brand had a unique collection with varied colors, sizes, prints and more, giving the consumer tons of options to choose from (oh and did I mention, some great deals as well).
As part of the Summer Runway Project, I was asked to put together a look that is perfect for the ongoing season. A shopping bag in hand and phone in another (for live updates on Twitter from the store), I set out on a mission to create an outfit, that will not only be perfect for summer, but would also be unique. As soon as I entered the store, I was immediately drawn to their in-house brand - Fusion, which has some really pretty ethnic and casual wear. I picked up a few pieces for trial and while walking ahead, I came across this quirky, cat & watch print shirt and ethnic - crush skirt. I quite liked the fabric, which is very breezy and comfortable. I realized that it would make for a good print-on-print outfit. Moreover, both the pieces are extremely versatile, as the shirt can be paired with jeans, trousers or even pallazo pants, while the skirt can be teamed with basic tees, t-backs or even a pretty blouse. Those who are in love with the current on-trend Bohemian look can spruce up this outfit with the right set of accessories and be ready to rock the world.
While I left the store with a huge smile on my face (and a big, fat shopping bag filled with lots of stylish, colorful apparel), Reliance Trends and I are excited to bring a smile on your face as well. You can win this look put together by me by participating in the Summer Runway Project contest. Don't forget to like the Reliance Trends Official and Diary of a Dancebee page on Facebook and follow Reliance Trends and Priya Adivarekar on Twitter for all the details next week.

Best Dressed | 87th Academy Awards
While we can't stop going 'Gaga' (quite literally) over the beautiful tribute to Sound of Music by Lady Gaga, or the inspirational speech by Graham Moore that gave 'Stay Weird' a new meaning, let's also shift our focus to some lovely ladies on the red carpet. They turned heads, made the best sartorial choices and stunned everyone with their appearances. Here's presenting the Dancebee's favorite red carpet looks at the 87th Annual Academy Awards.
Emma Stone in Elie Saab
This woman never fails to disappoint. Trust Emma Stone to win hearts with all her stylish choices. For the Oscars 2015, she opted for a customized long sleeve Elie Saab gown in a stunning golden green shade. And she sure rocked with minimal accessories, bright lips, and a pair of matching green heels.
Dakota Johnson in Saint Laurent
Now that's how you do a red, hot number! Dakota Johnson rocked this shade as she walked the red carpet in a sparkling, fire engine red gown by Saint Laurent. Don't miss the minimal make up, accessories and simple up do. Dakota sure believes in letting her killer gown do the talking. Metallic ankle strap heels finished her the look.
Jennifer Lopez in Elie Saab
If there is anyone who can do justice to outfits with a plunging neckline, and make the entire look appear chic and classic; it is none other than the immensely talented Jennifer Lopez. Every time she makes an appearance, I wonder how she looks like a million bucks (since I have grown up dancing to her songs). Jennifer glowed and how in this beautiful embellished Nude Elie Saab dress. With a matching clutch, nude lips, sleek hairdo and matching earrings, JLo looked every inch a diva.
Reese Witherspoon in Tom Ford
Its what you call a classy appearance, with just a dash of black and white, and minimal accessories. The gorgeous Reese Witherspoon wowed one and all in this chic number by Tom Ford. It fits her so perfectly, and her most coveted accessory - the smile - does wonders too. Double thumbs up for this look!
Lupita Nyong'o in Calvin Klein
What's beautiful, customized and made up of more than 6000 pearls? Ahem, this stunning Calvin Klein gown worn by actress Lupita Nyong'o. While her 2014 appearance in Prada is still fresh in our minds, we love how Lupita did not disappoint us this year too with this halter neck dress with a keyhole cutout in the front. Must say, the girl makes some real good sartorial choices.
Anna Kendrick in Thakoon
Amid a sea of metallic hues, whites, blacks and grays; it was refreshing to see Anna Kendrick in this coral gown, which looked absolutely amazing on her. Anna opted for very little accessories, except a big rock on her finger and a pair of studded earrings by Norman Silverman Jewelry. What stood out was of course, the jeweled collar of her gown, and we like the overall simple look.
Rita Ora in Marchesa
The fairy tale (or should we say, fishtail) gown that we are totally digging, Rita Ora made sure that her debut at the Oscars this year is a memorable one. And it sure was. Apart from her performance, what stood out was her beautiful fishtail gown by Marchesa. We absolutely love how that midnight blue shade blends so well with the hint of gold on her gown. She kept in simple on the make up front, allowing her short crop in fresh blond hair dye to do the talking. We like!
Keira Knightley in Valentino
One of our favourite female actors, in one of our most loved labels. The stunning mommy-to-be, Keira Knightley looked every inch a diva from the Shakespearean era, as she made heads turn in this floral number by Valentino. Well, its amazing how Keira rocks every possible creation by Valentino! This beautiful gown, with intricate designs of floral motifs and words in French, truly looked delightful on Keira. She kept it simple with less make up, and an adorable head accessory finished her look. The actress was glowing as she posed for the shutterbugs, and then some more with her husband James Righton.
Did you have any particular favorite look from this years female nominees and attendees?

Valentines Day
Love Actually | India Circus
Tis' the season of love, they say. But in a world filled with so much hatred, can we afford just a day dedicated to love? Love can win any battle, topple over any form of hatred. Then why does it take time for us to acknowledge it and spread the happiness around? Spreading a little bit of love and happiness doesn't do much harm. And I am not restricting love to just certain relationships. There is so much more to it.
You can share some love with your parents, siblings, friends, a little kid living next door or even an elderly woman spotted outside a temple. A simple smile, exchange of loving words can really make someone's day. And no, it is not just restricted to humans. Go ahead and spend a fun day with your pet, or lovingly hug a stray dog after feeding him/her some biscuits. In fact, it can even be your favorite items ranging from bags, books, shoes to the best of apparel in your wardrobe. Keeping them in good condition is also a way of loving the stuff that you call your own and while shopping, you end up buying only the things that you love (unless you are someone who follows trends religiously).
And then, of course, you need to love yourself. Because even at a time when no one's there for you, you can look into the mirror and say, "Main apni favorite hoon." So, you see, love has no boundaries, really.
Speaking of love, the word is actually quite apt for this collaboration, because everything available on India Circus spells 'Pure Love'. Visit their website and get ready to fall in love with every single piece of apparel, accessories, stationary and home decor items. Their fun, stylish and colorful prints are hard to miss. Its a lot like love at first sight. If you set your eyes on any of India Circus' beautiful products, chances are that you might not want to leave the web-store without placing an order. One look at this Elephant Bath bag and I knew I had to order it. As for the pink ballet flats, they make for a versatile pair that can go well with a variety of looks, ranging from ethnic, classic, casual to bohemian. My work buddies - I am talking about the iPad and iPhone - couldn't have asked for better sleeves and cases. While the India Circus chromatic reminiscence phone case shows off my love for cinema very well, the melange of different hues on the colourful streamer iPad sleeve adds more joy to my email replying hours. Clearly, there is a lot to love here.
I am guessing the folks at India Circus also agree with my mantra of loving yourself. So much, that this Valentine's eve, they are offering assured gifts on purchase to all the singletons out there. See, being single ain't all that bad, after all. You can indulge in some retail therapy and tell yourself, "I am who I am and I love being me." They also have an exclusive curated section, where special curated products by India Circus Design Director, Krsna Mehta, can be purchased. There is something for everyone, so don't hesitate to fill your cart with multiple goodies for your loved ones (and maybe, acquaintances or strangers too). Here's to love, and the lovely burst of colours in India Circus products! Keep spreading the joy.

A Winter Day in Mumbai | Outfit
They call it a humourless season that can drive one to drinking (according to Amy Gerstler). Henry Wardsworth Longfellow refers to it as a time when the troubled sky reveals the grief that it feels. And then, of course, the master playwright Williams Shakespeare summed its rudeness in four words, with a line in As You Like It that goes, "Thy breath be rude." Despite all the metaphors associated with it, Winter is also remembered for its memories. The Christmas decorations, sesame laddoo making sessions on Sankrant, conversations with family over hot chocolate, days (and nights, since they are longer) spent snuggling inside the blanket and curling up on the bed with your favorite book. Just like everything in this world, Winter has its share of fans and haters. Speaking of which, the winters in Mumbai have always been a favorite topic for those who originally hail from much colder regions. As much as people have always loved to crib about the winters in Mumbai, I absolutely adore it.
Mumbai is a coastal city, so naturally, the humidity will overpower everything (and I still wonder why people continue to crib and ask for a 'Dilliwali Thand' here. People, if that day ever comes, you will have global warming to thank). Even winters. Its like a mix of sunshine, humidity and slow, cold breeze in the afternoons, while the evenings get slightly chilly. One of the reasons why I love this weather is because it gives me the opportunity to wear all my favourite jackets and blazers. I have always been more of a jacket person, as compared to someone who prefers scarves and shawls.
A jacket is your best bet on a cold day out and can help spruce up even the most boring or basic outfits. Ditto Blazers (its a good idea to have them in different colours and even prints). Personally, I have always loved jackets that add a sporty touch, and instead of opting for my good ol' Nike sneakers as always, I gave this outfit a twist with these sneaker heels (not very comfortable post 1-2 hours, so I suggest you keep those sneakers around if its a long day).
If you think about it, this weather shall last only for a few more days (or weeks). So, step out in your favourite jacket and maybe, show off that 'ain't nobody got time for that shit' look on your face when someone keeps complaining about the Mumbai weather. Trust me, it doesn't hurt!

Before I begin, here's wishing all the readers a very Happy Makar Sankranti. "Til gul ghya aani god god bolat raha," is our way of ushering in the harvest season and first part of the festive season in the Hindu calendar. The day begins with distribution of jaggery filled sesame laddoos and a hope - that we keep saying all things sweet and kind all year long. Some live by the promise, while most do not.
It is a lot like the promise we make to ourselves at the beginning of the year (in simple terms: resolutions, that I do not believe in). It ranges from getting back to the gym, sticking to a beauty regime to the best of diets and everything else. But have you ever challenged yourself to get of inhibitions? Maybe not.
We live a life where important decisions hold you back. You want to say something, but end up blurting out something totally different. You muster up the courage to confess your love to someone or collect enough money to join a Belly Dancing workshop after months. But somewhere, you get conscious about the whole idea and start thinking about the consequences. As a result, you drop the plan. Maybe, that's what you think was the correct thing to do at that moment. Things could have gone wrong, you think. Your friend may never look at you the same way or your father will be angry at you for spending money on a 'dance' workshop. But have you ever given the idea of "let go of your fear and risk it" a thought? What if you would have explained the need to learn a new dance form and dared to give the Belly Dancing workshop a try. At the end of it, your father would have proudly said, "I am glad you are trying out new things in life." But hey, you took a step back and now the only thing you would have is regret. The regret of not letting go of your inhibitions and chasing your dreams. Is that really what you want to hold on to? If not, then ward off those restrictions and learn to believe in yourself this 2015.
It is absolutely okay to be a free spirited person. If there are people around who don't want you to be like that, tell them that it is a positive word and there is absolutely no harm in being a person who expresses himself/herself freely. Don't bound yourself because of societal judgement. If you really believe in what you are doing and are not indulging in anything that will shame your family or name, then why fear? A few years back, I promised myself that I shall never let inhibitions hold me back. So, if I feel something is right and that I must do it, I just go ahead with my family and the almighty's blessings. I believe that both Success and Happiness are a mix of many elements, and letting go of your inhibitions is just one of them.
The outfit in this post shows off my free spirited side quite wonderfully. I let go off everything when I am working out or dancing with the music blasting on full volume. Its wonderful how Puma, as a brand, has always presented varied range of designs, prints and colors in each collection. The gym leggings in this outfit pretty much explains why I loved these graphic prints from their latest collection. They are colorful, bold and yet not very 'in your face'. Its the kind of an outfit that allows you to celebrate freedom -The freedom to run against the wind. The freedom to do an air split in the middle of nowhere. The freedom to train for hours and be unstoppable! The freedom to be myself. 2015 is going to be all about this and a lot more. Let's ditch those inhibitions and regrets, shall we?
Oh! And did I tell you that the SS 2015 collection by Puma looks super lust worthy? Well, we had a sneak peek and shall give you more details very soon. Also, lots of luck to all the participants of SCMM 2015. I will be there for the run. Quite nervous and excited, but I am sure its gonna be good.
