LFW - DHL presents Opening Show by Amit Aggarwal and Masaba Gupta

It's that time of the year again, when fashionistas get ready to put their best foot forward and the who's who of the fashion industry comes together to showcase their talent (and some really creative designs) on the runway. Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014 kicked off with a bang at a new venue - Palladium Hotel - yesterday, with a full house to witness designers Amit Aggarwal and Masaba Gupta create magic on the runway. And well, they definitely left us impressed. Take a look!

Amit Aggarwal's collection was space age couture at its best. The collection, that according to him is inspired by tribal influences like weaving techniques, striped tattoos and structured jewelry, wonderfully mixed androgyny with feminity.

Lots of black, gold and deep tones like wine, blue among others dominated the runway, in fabrics (as stated by Aggarwal) like washed matt silks, crepe de chine, dutchess satin and more.
At the end of the showcase, the ever-so-gorgeous and confident Sushmita Sen rocked the ramp with her elegant walk, in a beautiful mix of mesh, metallics and peplum in black.

Popular (and some of my favourite) 80's disco numbers, right from Mama mia to Daddy cool, kickstarted Masaba Gupta's showcase. Titled Wanderess, the collection is said to be inspired by Roman Payne's poetry. Floral prints, geometric, colourful hues and interesting figure hugging silhouettes dominated her collection, which according to Gupta, is a reflection of the free-spirited, new age woman. The collection had a strong influence of the 60's and 70's, what with bell bottoms and flare sleeves making a comeback. Wanderlust already, anyone?

I loved how Gupta has added an interesting twist to the sari by experimenting with the fabrics and cuts. The jewellery by Amrapali also added a great touch to the gypsy inspired collection. Most of the outfits are pretty wearable and as Gupta likes to put it, 'perfumed with romace'. The stunning Shilpa Shetty Kundra closed the show for Gupta's collection, as she slowly walked towards the centrestage, with beats of Urvashi Urvashi playing in the background. The highlight? Models burning the ramp with their moves and having a great time.

And, here's what I wore on the opening day!

Dress: Mango Suit
Peep toes: Steve Madden
Earrings: Forever 21
Watch: Tommy Hilfiger
iPad clutch inspired cover: Gift
Make up: Lipstick - MAC Ruby Woo
Clinique Mascara
Lakme Absolute Liquid Liner in Black

Also, I experimented by trying the outfit with my hair left open, followed by a neat pony tail (which I eventually opted for).
Which look do you prefer?
